A few days ago, I watched a video on YouTube that touched my heart. It was about a 58-year-old self-made millionaire sharing her life experiences and valuable advice.

Janet's words were so inspiring that I had to share what I learned with you.

Here’s my story of learning from her wisdom but first we need to understand her story.

Just put yourself in the shoes of an 18-year-old girl who makes this tough decision, to leave for a completely different country by herself.

Well, she did just that.

She left everything behind and moved to Italy, *choosing to live on her own terms *rather than following societal norms.

And this was just the beginning of her amazing journey.

She didn’t take that normal route of going to school, dropping out, going back to university to get a master’s degree in business, and finding what was the calling of her life, which was restaurants.

She opened her first restaurant when she was 30, though most told her not to, and today, at age 59, owns 12 restaurants in Toronto and 2 in LA and lives a dream day after day.

Throughout her journey, she emphasized the importance of doing inner work, understanding oneself, and dealing with past traumas.

She also stressed the value of trusting your gut, as ignoring her instincts led to a notable financial loss in one of her restaurant projects.

The Lessons I Learned

1st lesson — Follow your own path

Her story reminded me that a person needs to live his or her life the best way he or she wants.

This sometimes may be very hard to do since society may expect something quite different from you, but staying true to oneself is the surefire way to happiness.

**A compelling example is** her decision to move to Italy at 18 to live by her own rules.

2nd lesson — Find and pursue your passion

She found her passion in the restaurant business and built a very successful career out of it.

That indeed made me realize **how important it is to find out what you love doing and dedicate yourself to it, **as work becomes enjoyable and pleasing when one does what one loves.

3rd lesson — Embrace risks

Opening her first restaurant was, in fact, a big risk, but she didn’t let that fear her.

It taught me that taking calculated risks is the main factor in growing and succeeding.

Assess the risks, but don’t let them paralyze you.

Life is too short to play it safe all the time.

4th lesson — Trust your instincts

One of the big losses in one of her restaurant projects was not listening to her instincts.

It also taught me the importance of trusting my instincts.

The voice within you is the best voice that guides you through life, and it’s very important to listen to it, especially when it comes to making critical choices.

5th lesson — Live in the moment

Life is so short, and we never know if today will be our last day.

She would encourage getting up with a positive mindset and making the most out of each day.

This reminded me to cherish each moment and live fully in the present.
