Keep Knocking
The Truth to Carry
Sunday Sermon
Keep Knocking

Jesus invites us to keep praying — not because He is reluctant to answer, but because persistent prayer forms resilient faith, deepens our relationship with Him, and teaches us to trust the goodness of our heavenly Father.
Invitation
Most of us know what it’s like to pray for something that doesn’t change as quickly as we’d hoped. We ask, we wait, and sometimes we wonder whether God hears us at all. Jesus speaks directly into that experience when He tells us to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking. His invitation isn’t simply about getting what we want. It’s about becoming people who keep coming to the Father because we know who He is.
Persistent prayer is first an expression of faith. Hebrews reminds us not to throw away our confident trust in the Lord because patient endurance is needed as we continue to do God’s will. Faith is not measured only by dramatic moments of belief but by the quiet decision to keep praying when the answer hasn’t yet arrived. Every return to prayer is another declaration that God is still worthy of our trust.
Jesus also teaches that prayer is about relationship. In John 15, He calls us to abide in Him like branches connected to a vine. A branch doesn’t survive by visiting the vine occasionally; it lives by remaining connected. Prayer is much more than presenting requests. It is our ongoing communion with Christ. As we continue coming to Him, we discover that His presence becomes more valuable than simply receiving immediate answers. Our desires begin to align with His heart, our anxieties are reshaped by His peace, and our lives begin bearing fruit that only His Spirit can produce.
Finally, Jesus reminds us that the One behind the door is our Father. Earthly parents, though imperfect, generally desire to give good gifts to their children. How much more does our heavenly Father delight to give what is truly good? Romans points us to the greatest evidence of God’s goodness: He did not spare His own Son but gave Him for us. If God has already given us Jesus, we never have to wonder whether His heart toward us is generous and loving. James reinforces this confidence by reminding us that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father, who never changes. God’s goodness is not determined by today’s circumstances. His character remains constant even when His timing differs from our expectations.
This truth reshapes Monday morning. We don’t begin another week trying to manufacture faith through sheer determination. We begin by returning to the Father. We keep knocking not because persistence earns His favor, but because grace has already welcomed us into His presence through Christ. We keep coming because abiding with Jesus is where life is found. We keep trusting because our Father is always wiser, kinder, and more faithful than we can fully see.
The Holy Spirit strengthens weary hearts to persevere when prayers seem unanswered. He reminds us of God’s promises, keeps us rooted in Christ, and gently forms in us the endurance that faith requires. Prayer is not merely about changing our circumstances; it is one of God’s primary ways of changing us into the likeness of His Son.
The Week’s Easy Yoke Practice
Five Minutes at the Door
Set aside five uninterrupted minutes at the same time each day this week. Begin by quietly imagining yourself knocking on the Father’s door — not as a stranger hoping to be accepted, but as a beloved child welcomed into His presence through Jesus.
Bring one ongoing prayer request before Him each day. Resist the urge to rush or multiply requests. Simply present it honestly, thank Him for hearing you, and spend a few moments resting in His presence before ending with, “Father, I trust Your goodness and Your timing.”
If your schedule is demanding, use this practice during a commute, lunch break, or before bed. If illness, caregiving, or other limitations make extended quiet difficult, return to this simple prayer throughout the day: “Father, I keep coming because You are good.”
The 24-Hour Practice
Receive the Day
Begin your morning by opening your hands and praying, “Father, today I choose to keep trusting You before I try to solve everything myself.”
Prepare the Body
As you drink your first glass of water or take a short walk, thank God for your body as His gift and ask for strength to steward it faithfully rather than striving anxiously.
Engage the Work
When you encounter frustration or delay, pause before reacting and quietly pray, “Jesus, help me abide in You as I do today’s work.”
Love the People
Choose one person today who needs your patient presence more than your quick advice. Listen well and reflect the Father’s kindness.
Release the Day
Before sleep, thank God for one answered prayer, one unanswered prayer you are still entrusting to Him, and one evidence of His faithfulness today.
Rest in God
Receive sleep as an act of trust, remembering that God continues His work while you rest. Lay down unfinished tasks in His capable hands.
Reflection questions
- What prayer have I been most tempted to stop praying, and what would it look like to keep knocking in faith?
- How can I shift from treating prayer primarily as asking for things to enjoying communion with Christ?
- Where do I struggle to believe that the Father is truly good, and how does the cross speak to that struggle?
- What daily habit most helps me abide in Jesus throughout ordinary life?
- How might trusting God’s timing change the way I approach this coming week?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for welcoming us through Jesus Christ. When waiting becomes difficult, strengthen our faith to keep knocking. Draw us into deeper fellowship with Your Son as we learn to abide in Him each day. Remind us that Your heart is always good, Your gifts are always wise, and Your love never changes. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, help us walk faithfully through every ordinary moment this week with confidence, patience, and joyful trust. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
