I must not be a sugar addict. I don’t have sugar or any sweeteners in the house. I do like maple syrup on pancakes, which are an occasional treat. I rarely eat honey. It’s too runny. I’m probably a dairy addict ‘cos I drink milk every day.
Honey, sugar and sweet have different meanings for me. They’re romantic nicknames we give our partners, maybe because they all have the connotation of sweetness. And because many of us dub our partners with one of these, they often appear in song. Let’s see…
Honey, Honey (ABBA)

Who remembers Sugar, Sugar by The Archies (cartoon). It was a one-hit wonder for them.

Oh, here’s a sad song: Honey by Bobby Goldsboro. Do you remember this one?

And how can we forget the Beatles’ Honey Pie?

And here we have them all Sweets for my sweet, Sugar for my honey… sung by The Searchers.

July 9: She’s done it again! Do Capozucca asks: Are you a honey, syrup, sugar, sweetener or something else person? How do you use any of these products if at all?
After reading many responses to Do Capozucca’s prompt, and since I don’t have a sweet tooth — I never eat lollies (candy) —I thought I’d write about honey, sugar and sweet in songs as romantic names. There are probably others but I got stuck in a long clip of 60s music which flooded me with memories.
Thanks for reading, or listening to these sweet songs.
