The Birds Sound Best at Fajr

Bismillah.

— Read for free here! (Please let me know if this does not work.) —

There is a different quality to the air at Fajr. A different sound; a different feeling, one that I have not found elsewhere.

If you wish to experience it, you do so when it’s still dark: too late into the night, too early into the day- its own sort of golden hour, which also pours onto your face as noor, which is an undescribable sort of light that radiates off the face that no product could replicate.

Anyway, back to the sound of Fajr.

A window cracked open, even just a little, is not just letting cool air in. No. You can hear the birds chirping and tweeting in such a gentle, melodious manner. I rarely ever hear them this way at any other time of the day.

Do you notice this too? How, if you look closely, you see that all of nature worships Allah? From the trees that bow in prayer to the animals that declare in their own tongues.

I could explain it all to you but to truly know it and feel it for what it is, you’d have to be up to experience it.

Do you know the importance of Fajr?

It’s the first battle of the day against the devil you get. You cannot let his whispers to stay asleep lull you back into a perceived comfort.

**‘Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:**

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The two Rak’ah before the dawn (Fajr) prayer are better than this world and all it contains.”

If this is about the sunnah, what of the fardh?

Our five prayers are like the pillars of a foundation, each one holds us up, and missing them- even one- causes disruption and ruination. Neglect your salah and you neglect so much more.

The angels come at Fajr and Asr and report back to Allah. Imagine what they will say if you are not praying at the appointed times.

Reframe how you see prayer as an invitation from Allah. So when the time of prayer calls, you must answer. Who are we to ignore that call, when it is Allah Whom we are praying to?

Where would one be without Allah’s mercy? This is your chance to speak to Allah. To thank him and show your love for our Most Merciful Lord.

The birds sound best at fajr, for they are remembering Allah. Are you?

-Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, ˹genuine˺ prayer should deter ˹one˺ from indecency and wickedness. The remembrance of Allah is ˹an˺ even greater ˹deterrent˺. And Allah ˹fully˺ knows what you ˹all˺ do.

~The Qur’an 29:45

***Narrated Abu Huraira:***

*Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Angels come to you in succession by night and day and all of them get together at the time of the Fajr and `Asr prayers. Those who have passed the night with you (or stayed with you) ascend (to the Heaven) and Allah asks them, though He knows everything about you, well, “In what state did you leave my slaves?” The angels reply: “When we left them they were praying and when we reached them, they were praying.”*

-Whoever does not know the reward of deeds, they will feel cumbersome upon him in all circumstances.

**Narrated Abu Huraira:**

*I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying, “If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day would you notice any dirt on him?” They said, “Not a trace of dirt would be left.” The Prophet (ﷺ) added, “That is the example of the five prayers with which Allah blots out (annuls) evil deeds.”*

***It was narrated that Abu Darda’ conveyed that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:***

*“Whoever goes to bed intending to wake up and pray during the night, but is overwhelmed by sleep until morning comes, what he intended will be recorded for him, and his sleep is a charity given to him by his Lord.”*

A reminder to myself first, slightly more direct, but firm love comes from a heart that cares. I hope it helps you, too.

May Allah allow us to be steadfast and diligent in our prayers. Ameen
