From Skinny to Fit: My 6-Month Muscle Building Story

For years, I was “that skinny guy.” The one who could eat anything and never gain weight. People would joke, “Bhai kabhi khana khaya bhi hai ya nahi?” and honestly, it stopped being funny a long time ago. Being underweight came with its own kind of insecurity that nobody really talks about.

This is the story of how I went from skinny to fit in 6 months, the mistakes, the turning point, and the plan that actually worked.

If you’ve been searching for a gym near me, a gym for weight gain, or the best gym in Gurugram to start your transformation, this story might help.

Like most skinny guys, my first instinct was to eat more. Parathas, milk, bananas, whatever advice I got from well-meaning relatives. But without proper training, none of it turned into muscle, it just made me feel bloated and tired.

I tried working out at home with random YouTube videos. No structure, no progression, no one to correct my form. Six weeks in, I looked exactly the same. That’s when I realized without the right environment, equipment, and guidance, this wasn’t going to change.

The Turning Point

I live in Sector 65, Gurugram, and finding a gym near to me was honestly half the battle. I didn’t want a place that was all about bodybuilders lifting insane weights.

Before deciding, I actually checked out 2–3 gyms best nearby me like Fitness First, Cult.fit, and Anytime Fitness. I found Anytime Fitness perfect from these gyms because it worked for weight gain and pretty much every other goal I saw people working on there. I’d see people around who had clearly transformed over a few months, the trainers were genuinely helpful without being pushy, and the whole environment felt safe and welcoming even as a complete beginner. That combination is what made the difference for me.

And honestly, the 24/7 access thing is a bigger deal than I expected going in. Like some nights I’d be stuck at work till late, and I could just walk in at 10–11pm and still get my session done. Everything felt well maintained, which honestly matters a lot when you’re lifting heavy and don’t want machines acting up mid-set.

The Plan That Actually Worked For Me

Here’s roughly what my 6 months looked like:

Months 1–2: Foundation

  • Focused on compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench press, rows
  • 4 days a week, full body split
  • Learned correct form before adding weight

Months 3–4: Progressive Overload

  • Moved to a push/pull/legs split, 5 days a week
  • Started tracking weights and reps to make sure I was progressing
  • Increased protein intake — eggs, paneer, dal, milk

Months 5–6: Consistency + Recovery

  • Prioritized sleep (7–8 hours) this made a bigger difference than I expected
  • Added a rest day between heavy sessions to avoid overtraining

What I Wish I Knew Sooner

  1. Form matters more than weight. Ego lifting just gets you injured.
  2. Progress is slow, then sudden. The first 8 weeks feel like nothing is happening. Don’t quit here.
  3. A good gym environment changes everything. Having 24/7 access meant I never had an excuse to skip — early morning or late night, it didn’t matter.
  4. The energy of the gym you choose matters more than people admit.

Summary

If you are in Sector 65 or nearby areas in Gurugram and going through the same struggle I was, my honest advice is: don’t overthink it, just find a gym that suits you.

My advice is — *Anytime Fitness*
