The Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) regime is incredibly complex. In fact, many fintech startups struggle to understand how to navigate the regulatory framework. More specifically, it can be challenging to figure out whether your startup needs to obtain one or not! For this Masterclass, we’re bringing in an expert in the space to discuss the pitfalls and perils many startups face in navigating the AFSL regime.

In this session, we’ll tackle the regulatory regime for Australian fintechs. Through an interactive workshop, we will explore some key questions startups regularly confront in relation to AFSL. These include:

• Do I need an AFSL?
• What about a credit licence?
• Can I be an authorised representative or use ASIC’s sandbox?
• Should I talk to ASIC before launch?
• How do I apply for a licence?
• What regulatory/compliance hurdles will I face?

The discussion will be facilitated by fintech lawyer Daniel Knight, a Senior Associate at K&L Gates.
