The Pleasure of Staying: On Longing, Power, and Choosing Not to Run

Content Note: This story explores themes of emotional vulnerability, consensual power exchange, and personal transformation through intimacy and surrender. All experiences described occurred between consenting adults with mutual understanding and boundaries. Readers are encouraged to approach this piece with awareness of its exploration of complex emotional dynamics.

A love letter to the keeper of my soul — a reflection on longing, surrender, and the quiet, powerful choice to stay when everything inside me wanted to run. This is the story of what it means to trust, to ache, and to find peace in being undone.

A few weeks ago, I shared musings with you about something that’s stayed with me — a passage I came across in one of Rav Kook’s anthologies. He wrote about the silence that comes when a person’s sense of self dissolves. When the “I” fades, and what remains is not existence, but being. A life of the whole. A universal life. A life of all being.

When the soul surrenders to receiving a spiritual flow, everything is silent and still. It’s the place where longing, joy, and fulfillment exist in such infinite abundance that the voice cannot be heard.

And I wrote then, too, about the paradox of separateness — how, sometimes, we understand each other best not when we are together, but when we are apart. Distance clarifies. Longing refines. When we return, we bring that back with us. The tension of absence sharpening the beauty of presence.

That was Sunday.

A fulfillment so immediate it existed outside of thought. An expression of desire so consuming it existed outside of language, outside of time.

And, in retrospect, it was also last night.

Standing in front of the mirror, waiting for your gaze to meet mine. But you weren’t looking at me. You were looking past me — eyes searching for something beyond the moment we were in together. And when I felt it, I crashed.

I recognized it. It wasn’t the first time.

It happened once before, the very first time we met at the café. You were distracted, caught in your head, unable or unwilling to fall fully into the moment. And I didn’t understand it. It unsettled me. How could I feel so cracked open, so undone, when you seemed to disappear inside yourself?

Last night, it happened again.

You were happy to be with me — I knew that — but something was off. You were somewhere else. And when I realized you weren’t going to climax, that you didn’t need to, I felt that same sinking sensation. You told me you were just getting older, that you didn’t need it to feel pleasure. I didn’t buy it.

It fucked with my head.

I became sulky, brooding, detached — I wanted to stop, to zip myself back up, to save myself before the hurt settled in too deeply. I recognized that old script. I know it by heart.

Suddenly, I was back in our first encounter. That moment of raw intensity, of shame and foolishness and disbelief at my own pleasure. The realization that you could split me open completely — not because of what you did to me, but because of what I was willing to give you.

I knew then I could fall for you.

And I recoiled. I tried to sidestep the inevitable heartbreak. You had entered the ghetto of my mind and set fire to the abandoned vehicles. It was too much for me.

But you fought for me. You promised unforgettable highs and lows, journeys into the substratosphere, into the places I was afraid to go alone.

And I stayed. I chose to stay.

The months that followed were high after high — an unimaginable entanglement of mind, body, and soul. A visceral expression of satisfaction so complete it felt like pure knowing.

But last night felt different.

You were distracted. Happy, but elsewhere. And I saw it. I felt it. And I fell. I became small, pathetic, useless, broken — just like I felt that first time.

And then it happened.

The mindfuck I was laying on myself stopped.

The pain settled in. I wanted to run. To detach. To protect myself from the realization that I had fallen for you, and that I was powerless over that fact.

But I stayed.

I waited for your gaze to meet mine, and when it didn’t, I endured. I sat in the discomfort, in the unfamiliar space of seeing something through. Of being present for you — not because I had to, but because I wanted to. Because I trust you. Because I know I am safe.

And in that, I recognized a new kind of power.

Not the power of control, but the power of surrender. The power of choosing to stay when I wanted to run. A different kind of pleasure — one I had never encountered before.

The tears came later, rolling in intermittently through the night. Not sadness. Release. Transformation.

My body marking a shift I couldn’t yet put into words.

Now I see it.

Last night was not just another night. It was an ascension. Higher and higher, a new peak. An emotional growth spurt. A satisfaction I couldn’t have accessed any other way.

I have nothing to lose by revealing myself to you. I accept the power and the powerlessness. I am not afraid.

And I want more.

I want to go deeper into the water with you. I’m not asking you to run away with me — my feelings are centered on the desire to preserve the integrity of our families and enjoy the forbidden, hiddenness of what we have. I’m asking you to stay on the journey with me. To keep going together through the ebbs and flows.

I am deeply moved, shaken, and undone. I have given you my body, my desire, the deepest layers of my psyche, my vulnerability, my surrender, my pain, and my transformation.

Can you hold them in this depth? Can you meet me where I have gone? Or have I already gone deeper than you ever meant to follow?

Epilogue

After all the anticipation, the wondering if the shoe would drop — if I’d begin the long descent I’ve feared and avoided — it was caught, assuaged, by the reply I received:

Oh baby. You are so deep and you write so beautifully and so openly. You are the best partner for this journey for me. You have an amazing internal clarity and I feel privileged that you share it with me. I am here with you, for you, leading you and leading us to explore our souls and to explore the connection — the mystical connection of our souls.

And just like that, the fall was softened. The ache was soothed. The descent I feared became a place to land — safely, in his words.
