Who are you, really?

On a recent course, a few of the people there realised something that stopped them in their tracks:

They didn’t know who they actually were.

And these weren’t people who’d wasted their lives, quite the opposite. They’d done life, and done it well. The career, the family, the experiences. Seen it, done it, ticked it off the list.

But underneath all of that, they couldn’t answer one question.

Who were they beyond their roles as mother or father? Beyond the job title, the hobbies, the achievements, the pub darts team, the book club?

Every description they had of themselves was a description of what they did.

Who were they beyond that?

The room didn’t know.

So let me ask you the same thing.

Who are you?

This is the question.

And here’s the great part — when you finally know the answer, all of life gets simple. Not easy, necessarily. But simple. Because you’re no longer building your life on top of something that changes.

Because what you do IS always changing. And yet we try to build on it. No wonder we run into trouble when the marriage breaks down, or we retire, or the athletic career ends, or the kids grow up and the parenting changes shape.

But when you know who you are beneath what you do, the rest can rest on that.

This, really, is the whole point of Ascension.

People come for the calm. They come to quiet the mind, to be more present, and they get that. But the big thing is that they find out who they are. A sense of home, of coming back to themselves, that’s real and lasting in the middle of everything.

Not the job title, not the list of things they do, but who they are in the depths of their being.

That’s the hole most of us are quietly walking around with. And once it’s filled — once you come home to that — all of life makes sense.

So. Who are you, really?

It’s well worth asking the question so you can find out. And if I can help with that, let me know.

Go well,

Arjuna

P.S.

Summer is busy for me — I bet it is for you too — so the next in-person course to learn Ascension is 9–11 October (7pm start Friday).

Ascension is the one thing I’ve done that gave me so much more than I was expecting. If these emails are talking to you, then maybe this is the answer for you too.

Get in touch if you’d like details, or to book on,

Or, the link is in my bio too.
