Mother’s Day Special: Are you raising your Timothy?

We celebrate all our mothers today, regardless of their categories: great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, sister, and daughter.

We are blessed in my family to have all these categories of women in our lives. Until recently, we had great grandmothers, and in some years to come, today’s grandmothers will become Great grandmothers.

II Timothy 1:5 NKJV: when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.

The Biblical reference we have heard of over the years are Louis and Eunice, respectively. They are examples of generational nurturing reflected in Timothy. As the saying goes, “Omo to ba da, ti Baba e ni,” but we can also see that “ti Iya e na ni.” The glory will be for the family, not just the parents.

Today, we celebrate all those women who have nurtured, guided and moulded us (biological, spiritual and adopted children) over the years. The only way to have a better society is by ensuring that we have well-groomed children.

To our young mothers, raise your Timothy today, that you might earn the prayer and praise of others. Remember what happened in Luke 11:27, “As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, 'Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”

Let’s learn to stop paying lip service to being a virtuous woman!

Don’t believe that you have given your Samuel unto the Lord; you need to raise your Timothy to be worthy of support to the Paul of his generation.

You are doing your best,t but do not get weary of mirroring Christ unto the next generation.

If we truly want a better world and a peaceful old age, we need mothers who can inspire sincere faith in other generations. You will see them fan into flame the gift of God!
