He positioned himself as overseer where no mandate existed, inserting himself into matters beyond his remit. Such conduct, in any well-ordered establishment, would be regarded as overreach.

It has been my distinct experience that he derives influence not from merit openly demonstrated, but from quiet appropriation presenting collective or subordinate effort as strategic direction of his own. The hours of preparation, the execution of tasks, the intellectual groundwork these were borne by me; yet the exhibition before his superiors was conducted by him. It is a manoeuvre subtle in method, but unmistakable in effect.

More troubling is the pattern beneath the posture. The cultivated politeness masks an evident insecurity one that appears compelled to establish dominance not through leadership, but through proximity to power and control over those lower in hierarchy and especially women. True leadership elevates; it does not diminish. True authority inspires confidence; it does not harvest validation from the labour of others.

In the British military tradition, command is neither seized nor theatrically performed. It is earned through accountability, integrity, and the willingness to shoulder responsibility before claiming credit. A man secure in his standing has no need to appropriate the efforts of others to fortify it.

I have endured this conduct in silence out of professional restraint. However, silence must not be mistaken for consent, nor patience for weakness. I remain committed to my work, to standards of fairness, and to the principle that contribution should be recognised where it is genuinely made.
