I proudly hail from Kurnool, a city that beautifully blends history, culture, resilience, and progress. Known as the Gateway of Rayalaseema, Kurnool once served as the capital of Andhra State in 1953, which gives it lasting historical importance. Interestingly, Kurnool was historically known as Kandanavolu, which literally means “the place of grease.” In ancient times, traders transporting heavy loads would stop here to grease the wheels of their bullock carts before crossing the Tungabhadra River. Over centuries, this bustling trade centre evolved, and the name gradually became Kurnool.

The city is graced by the iconic Konda Reddy Fort, a powerful symbol of courage and architectural brilliance. The region flourished during the glorious Vijayanagara Empire, especially under the rule of the great king SriKrishnadevaraya, whose reign marked cultural growth and prosperity. Krishnadevaraya was also a great patron of literature and art. His court was adorned with the famous Ashta Diggajas – eight eminent Telugu poets. He himself was a scholar and authored the renowned Telugu literary work Amuktamalyada, which reflects his devotion, wisdom, and deep understanding of governance.

Kurnool is blessed by the mighty Tungabhadra River, which has supported agriculture and sustained communities for generations. The historic Kurnool-Cuddapah Canal further strengthened the region by turning dry lands into fertile fields. Together, they symbolize endurance and development. The historic carbide factory, once a center for producing carbide and ferro alloys, marked the beginning of modern industrial activity in the region. Today, the nearby Orvakal has become a hub of technological growth, hosting the Orvakal Mega Industrial Park and upcoming semiconductor and electronics manufacturing projects, signaling a bright industrial future for Kurnool.

Connectivity and modern infrastructure have grown alongside tradition. The Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy Airport, named after the local freedom fighter, connects Kurnool to major cities, boosting tourism, trade, and industrial development.

The food of Kurnool is bold and unforgettable. Uggani Bajji is a cherished breakfast combination, while Ragi Sangati has nourished generations with its wholesome strength. What began as a small shop in Kurnool grew into a trusted and celebrated brand, known for its pure ghee sweets and unwavering quality. It represents the entrepreneurial spirit and sweet legacy of my city.

Kurnool is also known for its contribution to healthcare. Institutions like Kurnool Medical College have produced many dedicated doctors who serve society with compassion and commitment.
