Ammuttie Stories -Episode 12: The Christmas Wish

It was one of those chilly December mornings when the whole house smelled like cinnamon and mischief. The Christmas tree was already up, slightly tilted to one side, as if it had celebrated too hard the night before. One fairy light kept blinking in slow motion like it was on strike.

Ammuttie and I were on the couch watching cartoons about elves building rocket sleighs when I noticed something small and shiny sitting on top of her little nose.

“Ammuttie,” I said in my most serious voice, “you’ve got an eyelash! You know what that means?”

Her eyes grew wide. “What does it mean, Acha?”

“It means you get to make a wish! Close your eyes, make your wish, and blow it away. If you do it right, your wish will come true.”

Instantly, her face lit up like a Christmas star. She closed her eyes tight, lips moving in secret, whispering something to the universe. I carefully placed the eyelash on her palm. She waited for a moment, took a deep breath, and blew it away with all her might.

“Done!” she said proudly, her eyes sparkling.

I smiled, “Good job, my little fairy. Let’s see if your wish comes true.”

Later that afternoon, we went to the shopping mall. Christmas carols were playing everywhere, fake snowflakes were falling from machines, and there was a giant Santa statue that looked slightly bored. As always, Ammuttie was on her usual mission.

“Acha, I need a toy.”

I sighed. “Ammuttie, you said that last week… and the week before that.”

She crossed her arms and said with a straight face, “Yes, but I don’t have this toy.”

I knelt down and tried my best to sound wise, like one of those parents in TV ads. “Sweetheart, we can’t buy toys every week. We have to spend money on important things too, like groceries and clothes. Toys can wait.”

She gave me that look… the one that says, “Nice speech, Acha, but not convincing.”

Trying to change the topic, I suddenly remembered her morning wish. “Hey, Ammuttie… what did you wish for today?”

In my head, I was ready for something like “a new doll” or “a magic pen” or maybe even “a swimming pool made of chocolates.”

Last time she wished for “lots and lots of money so we can buy everything,” so I was expecting another big idea.

But Ammuttie looked at me calmly and said,

“Oh, that? I wished Santa Claus becomes pregnant and gives birth this year.”

I blinked. “Wait… what?”

She nodded seriously. “Yeah, Acha. I wished Santa becomes pregnant.”

I nearly choked on my own laughter. “Santa… pregnant? Why would you wish that, Ammuttie?”

She shrugged. “Just for fun.”

For a full ten seconds, I couldn’t speak. My brain was busy picturing Santa, big belly and all, already round enough, now expecting triplets and trying to squeeze into his red suit while the elves panic.

I finally asked, still laughing, “Do you even know what that means, Ammuttie?”

She giggled. “No, Acha. But if Santa has babies, maybe there’ll be more Santas! Then gifts will come faster next Christmas!”

I just stood there in the middle of the mall, surrounded by lights and jingles, watching my five-year-old explain her Christmas economics with a straight face.

While most kids wish for toys or chocolates, my little Ammuttie wished for Santa Claus to become pregnant.

Just for fun.

And honestly, maybe that’s what the world needs , a bit of her wild imagination and a lot more laughter.
