A Different Perspective on Mercury Retrograde (Especially for Founders)

Every Mercury retrograde, we hear the same advice.

“Review.” “Revise.” “Rethink.” “Research.”

And honestly? That guidance isn’t wrong.

Mercury governs communication, perception, contracts and information processing. When the planet appears to move backward, it naturally invites us into reflection and recalibration.

But there’s another side to Mercury retrograde that almost no one talks about, especially in the entrepreneurial and creative world.

And it has less to do with cosmic punishment… and more to do with human psychology.

Here’s what I’ve observed over the years.

Even when we launch something that should be completely “safe” during retrograde, such as a program we’ve already run before, the results often look different.

Sign-ups tend to be slower. Decisions take longer. Interest is there… but commitment lags.

Not always. But often enough that the pattern becomes noticeable.

Why?

Because Mercury retrograde doesn’t just affect logistics.

It affects how people process decisions.

During retrogrades, people often feel:

• More mentally scattered • More prone to second-guessing • Less confident about committing • Concerned they might change their mind later

And ironically… they often do change their mind later.

So the hesitation isn’t irrational.

It’s part of the energetic climate.

This doesn’t mean you can’t launch during Mercury retrograde.

But it does mean you should understand the environment you’re launching inside of.

For many founders, this is where things get tricky.

Because when results are slower during retrograde periods, we tend to assume something is wrong.

So we start pivoting.

We rewrite the messaging. We add more bonuses. We discount the offer. We change the positioning. We tweak the sales page. We adjust the price.

And suddenly the signal of the offer becomes scattered.

But here’s the deeper truth.

The problem often isn’t the offer.

The problem is the signal hasn’t had time to stabilize.

In marketing, clarity compounds over time.

People need to hear something more than once. They need to see it from different angles. They need to feel the consistency of the message.

But Mercury retrograde energy can tempt us into constant revision before the signal ever becomes clear.

And, the not great news is that EVERY pivot resets the clock.

So instead of strengthening the signal…

We dilute it.

This is one reason I personally try to avoid launching during Mercury retrograde if I can.

Even with offers that are proven.

Instead, I often look at two timing windows that tend to feel much more supportive:

About 14 days before a retrograde begins =before the pre-shadow period . or About 14 days after the retrograde ends = after the post-shadow period.

That buffer period allows the mental fog to clear.

Decision-making sharpens.

Communication lands more cleanly.

And people feel more certain about their choices.

Truth: most launches don’t fail because the strategy is wrong. They fail because you change it too quickly.

Mercury retrograde isn’t a cosmic enemy.

It’s a rhythm.

A phase that favors reflection more than commitment.

A time to refine signal, not repeatedly reinvent it.

So if things feel slower during retrograde seasons, it doesn’t necessarily mean your work isn’t landing.

Sometimes it simply means the world is in a review phase rather than a decision phase.

And when you understand the rhythm…

You can move with it instead of fighting it.
