It is strange how they decide the winning Oscar, particularly if the contest is tight. In the past (as with the Grammys) many an undeserving Oscar has been handed out. All you have to do is watch this documentary short which was also nominated but eventually lost to “The Elephant Whisperers”. I would rate it better than “The Elephant Whisperers” anytime. The content is so sensitive and yet beautiful, literally an eye opener that I recommend everyone to watch. This is “Stranger at the Gate”, and it is just 30 minutes in length. It can be watched on YouTube and the link is here. Btw, I intend to watch the other nominated shorts as well and will post a review here.

(Later in the evening, the same day) And I just watched “Haulout”, and my doubts are confirmed. How ever did “The Elephant Whisperers” win the Oscar beating these outstanding films. The audio in “Haulout” itself deserves a nomination for Best Sound and as for the content you will have to see it to believe it. In almost thirty minutes of the documentary there should be just 2 to 3 minutes of human voices. Now, have I got your curiosity burning?
