Aleo PoSW Gains Edge in First-Year Proving Surge

As we head towards May, Aleo team is at the forefront of active adjustments to its consensus mechanisms. Recently, the team has recalibrated the production volume between Proof of Stake (PoS) and Proof of Succinct Work (PoSW) protocols, resulting in a slight increase in PoSW yields in its inaugural year. This strategic decision underpins Aleo’s commitment to fostering a balanced and robust network.
The Shift of the Volume
The calculation formula for PoS has been adjusted. The coefficient for the coinbase reward has been modified from 1/2 to 1/3, as shown in the code snippet below.

The recent adjustment reveals that PoSW will now have a heightened role in the Aleo network. The attached bar chart demonstrates the proportional changes over the next ten years, with PoSW seeing a slight surge in the first year.

Dev Progress Updates from Aleo
Testing and Development Strides
Diligently working towards the April 30 milestones, Aleo has reached 75% test completion on DevNet and 61% on CanaryNet. These figures show a steadfast progression aligning with the set action plan.
Security and Integration
With the completion of the ARC-0037/ARC-0038 audits, Aleo ensures that security is paramount, with no major issues detected. The ongoing integration tests herald a strengthened framework. The implementation of the Coinbase Puzzle on DevNet has successfully passed initial testing phases, setting the stage for its introduction to the Canary network.
Infrastructure Enhancements
The recent reset of both DevNet and CanaryNet has provided the opportunity to address client syncing challenges. The introduction of a topology change that necessitates validators to operate a minimum of three clients has improved network stability and security.
Client Syncing and Database Challenges
Client syncing remains a focal point for improvement, especially since some validators were impacted by synchronization issues. However, the implementation of cannons for testing transactions and deployments is a significant stride towards a more robust system.
Forthcoming Objectives
As April 30 looms, the integration and testing of ARC 0037/0038 on Canary Net, resolution of Coinbase Puzzle integration issues, and achieving a 100% pass rate for Devnet tests are the next hurdles. Furthermore, client performance enhancements are of utmost priority, tackling two critical issues — falling off the tip when using the REST API and reaching an irreparable state that could affect validators.
Preparing for the Future
With a code freeze targeted for May 15, there is an urgency to align earlier developed dapps with the latest network changes. The disparity between the current state of Devnet and Canary network and their previous versions presents a challenge that Aleo is ready to tackle head-on. The goal is to expose the newly tested Dev and Canary networks to developers worldwide as seamlessly as possible.
