A step above all the rest

Pardon the pun.

Mom bought me a set of stairs.

I wondered what the package was when it arrived.

Mom opened the bag. The contents had been vacuum sealed so as the bag opened the item just grew and grew. What could this be? Who is it for?

Mom’s always thinking of ways to help me.

During my last doctor’s visit, the vet told Mom that I have arthritis in my hind legs.

Jumping hasn’t been one of my strong suits. I have to admit it.

Everyone but me has confidence in my jumping abilities.

Lately, when I try to jump onto the arm of the loveseat, I seem to have trouble getting high enough, so I have to use my front paws to try to lift me up. Mom usually tries to grab me and help me up. Jumping up onto the bed has also been a bit of a challenge. Some days I make it, some days I don’t.

The day after it came Mom set it up by the loveseat. Of course I had to check it out. I now realized this was something for me.

I gave it a touch and a sniff. Interesting, I thought. Very soft material. I climbed it with absolutely no hesitation. How cool was this? Mom and Dad both looked so happy to see me use it.

Each night when we go to bed, Mom carries it into the bedroom so I can use it there too.

The first night I decided not to use it and to try to jump up but I had an oopsie moment. I didn’t reach the bed. Mom was watching and I felt a little embarassed about not making it. I tried to walk out of the room but Mom kept pointing to the stairs and tried to get me to come over to them. I finally decided not to feel so bad about missing my jump and to walk over to the stairs. Up I went.

I guess I have to realize I’m getting older and at 13 I may not be able to do all the things I did when I was younger.

Thanks Mom for helping me along and making this transition to “senior” a bit easier.

Hey, this thing is even comfy to sleep on.

Time for a nap.
