The rot has reached down deep into the root

And evil souls who profit from decay

Have seized the trunk and bred a devil’s brood

That feeds on others’ suffering and dismay

The redwood of the republic totters, sways

Consumed by parasitic ‘patriots’

Who promise a return to ‘golden days’

And feed their greed upon fear and hatreds

The tree is ours — a shared inheritance

The soil and roots and undergrowth its strength

We now stand against greed and arrogance

And, uniting, return to growth at length

We claim as ours the woods that greed would hew

By root and canopy and seed — renew
