First Run
A drabble about skiing, shivering, and the thrill of returning to the slopes

A 100-word story capturing the shiver, thrill, and freedom of a skier’s first run of the season.
Katie jumped off the ski lift at the top of the mountain. She skied to the top of the slope and looked down.
Katie shivered with excitement. Ok, maybe she also shivered from the cold. But that would be gone soon. Once she got started her body would warm up.
The first run down the mountain was always the most exciting. A little bit nerve-wracking, after a summer away from the snow, and then the glorious feeling of muscle memory taking over. She’d glide over the snow like a majestic bird through the sky.
She couldn’t wait to get started.
Prompt: Write a story where your character is shivering.
