Is your Brand Machine-Readable? The Rise of the Nigerian Agent Consumers
We’ve spent the last decade mastering the art of creating scroll-stopping content. We’ve hired influencers, obsessed over Instagram aesthetics, and fought for 3 seconds of the attention span of a young adult, slightly frustrated by the traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge looking for an escape online. But in 2026, the game has changed. There is a new consumer in the market, and they don’t have eyes. They have algorithms.
I’m talking about B2A: Business-to-Agent Marketing.
The Shift is now from Vibes to Vectors.
In Nigeria, time is our most expensive currency. Business owners in Lagos and Kano are no longer spending hours comparing the prices of inverters or comparing logistics providers. They are delegating that task to AI agents, automated assistants that live in their browsers and WhatsApp.
When a CEO tells their AI, Find me the most reliable delivery partner for 500 packages to Port Harcourt, that AI doesn’t see your celebrity endorsement. It looks for three things:
-
Structured Data: Can the AI read your pricing and terms instantly?
-
Digital Citations: What is are people saying about you on Nairaland, Google, and LinkedIn?
-
API-Readiness: Can the agent communicate with your system to close the deal?
The blindspot is most Nigerian brands are still marketing like it’s 2019. We hide our prices in “DMs for price” and put our service lists in unsearchable WhatsApp images.
If a machine can’t find your data, it won’t recommend your brand. In the B2A economy, being hard to reach doesn’t make you exclusive, it makes you invisible.
To win in 2026, we must move Beyond the basics:
. Optimize for Intent, not just Keywords.
. Build a digital receipt of trust by encouraging verifiable, text-based reviews.
. Open the Gates: Ensure your product data is structured for AI scrapers and agents.
I’d be speaking to conversation around marketing in my new podcast “Marketing & Beyond” on how Nigerian SMEs can gain profitable knowledge relevant to their businesses.
