This makes me go brain-dead

I’m “working” remotely this week on a ski getaway.

When I’m home, I have no trouble coming up with ideas for my emails.

When I’m out of my element, my mind goes blank.

I guess it’s good that I can turn off my brain when I’m away but I enjoy writing my almost-daily emails.

This week Ellen and I have been skiing 4–5 hours a day, relaxing in the hot tub, and hanging out with Ellen’s sisters.

I should have a million ideas for emails but nada.

It’s like I left my creative brain at home.

I think I made a breakthrough today.

As I was skimming my swipe email file today, one email caught my attention.

The first thing you learn in copywriting and email marketing is to write like you are speaking to one person.

A personal conversation.

The email I read this morning felt like they were talking to me in a personal way.

I was ready to sign up for their webinar until…

They ended the email with:

𝐶ℎ𝑒𝑒𝑟𝑠,

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑋𝑋𝑋 𝐷𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑘𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑇𝑒𝑎𝑚

(company name intentionally omitted)

I never heard of this company before this email.

Maybe I knew the founder of the company but he/she preferred to remain anonymous.

I immediately unsubscribed from their list.

A digital marketing firm should not make a rookie mistake like this.
