Most People Have the Wrong Idea About Spiritual Protection
Over the years, quite a few people have asked me how they can protect themselves energetically. Not just one or two… but dozens.
I’ve had many people reach out via social media, comment on articles, book calls with me to express their concerns and chat about it, and I’ve also spoken with quite a lot of people in different spiritual communities around the world.
Some of these people believe they are under spiritual attack.
Some believe they either have an entity attachment or a malevolent spirit lurking in their space.
Others just feel drained after doing some heavy inner work or spiritual practice, and suspect there might be some sort of external influence.
Naturally, I dove into this topic, sought advice from some good teachers in my life, continued to study different spiritual traditions around the world, and connected the dots.
Now, spiritual protection makes a whole lot more sense to me, and I’m going to share that perspective with you.
Is spiritual protection actually a thing?
From everything I’ve learned and experienced myself, yes, spiritual protection is a real thing.
But is it necessary?
Well… yes, especially if you’re engaging in spiritual practice, working with plant medicines, or doing anything that opens up your energy, but it’s nuanced.
First off, predatory entities do exist. Dense, sticky energies also do exist, and if you’re not careful, you can take stuff on that’s not yours to take.
But most people don’t really need to worry about energetic protection because they naturally have insulation. That insulation comes in the form of their:
- Vibration
- Beliefs and outlook
- Attitudes
- Daily routines and behaviors
- Energetic outlet and inlet
- Community
- Conduct with the world
What I’ve noticed is that people love to treat the spiritual body as an isolated thing. They want to know the best protective stones, prayers, and chants to send demons flying away.
But I’m sorry to say, none of that is going to do sh*t if you’re emotionally dysregulated, wounded, resentful, and ungrounded.
Focusing just on the spiritual stuff is like sealing up the front door when the entire wall behind you has fallen down.
You are an ecosystem.
That means everything works together, and if one aspect is disrupted, it affects the entire system.
Your spiritual health is more deeply connected to your mental health, your emotional health, and even your physical health than most people like to believe.
If you have an emotional vulnerability, it will translate into a spiritual vulnerability. If you’re mentally scattered, you are also making yourself vulnerable to unwanted energies and entities.
This is why you can’t just look at sealing one door when the others are broken and falling off the hinges. It’s not going to make a difference.
Are you available for attack?
This is the question we ought to be asking ourselves.
Are you making yourself an easy target? Is your energy centered and healthy? Are you harmonized physically, mentally, and emotionally?
When you are scattered, your energy is porous. When you’re grounded, centered, and embodied, your energy is strong.
Think of it like this:
- Porous energy field: Your energy is scattered, leaving openings.
- Impermeable energy field: Your energy is centered, creating a sort of energetic fortress.
Most people who have an attachment also have a porous field. The entity didn’t break down your door; it just walked right in.
Maybe that open doorway is an unresolved trauma, weak boundaries, painful emotions like shame, guilt, or resentment you’re holding onto, or a scattered mind. Maybe it’s your energetic output, being dishonest, dishonorably, self-serving…
Regardless, one way or another, your energy isn’t aligned, and that’s what scatters it.
I know some very skilled healers and spiritual leaders who have been targets of spiritual attack. But you know what?
There was always a vulnerability.
Regardless of how skilled or knowledgeable they were, there was something behind the surface I could see. A wound, insecurity, issues with authenticity.
Then there are plenty of people I’ve met who have a pretty tight energy.
They seem to be genuinely happy, at peace, doing good in the world, and because their input and output is clean, there are no vulnerabilities to exploit.
When is it necessary?
It’s best to see spiritual protection more about prevention than cure. First off, if this is a worry, I deeply encourage you to look at any aspects of your life that are out of alignment.
Are there still open wounds?
Are you still holding onto heavy energies like resentment, guilt, or shame?
Do you spend a lot of time consuming media that scatters your energy rather than inspires you or instils emotions like compassion, gratitude, or love?
Do you carry harmful beliefs, like people are inherently bad, life is a prison, doomsday is right around the corner, and you need to live in fear about something?
Do you live in constant fear, worry, or paranoia?
If any of these sound like you, then working on that should be a much bigger priority than reaching for something to help.
Also, if you’re sticking your head into strange territory, or opening yourself up energetically, especially while your energy is scattered, you’re just asking for trouble.
Anyway, I’m going to share 2 articles I wrote on the topic before I end up writing another essay in this email.
Each article is around 4000 words and addresses a different aspect of protecting yourself. These will definitely help orient you, and hopefully help this all make a little more sense:
