Nightmare in Krabi: Couple Wakes to Cobra Slithering Across Neck at 5 AM

KRABI, THAILAND — What was supposed to be a dream tropical getaway turned into a heart-stopping brush with death for a couple staying at a hotel in the scenic Ao Nang district of Krabi.

The incident unfolded in the pre-dawn hours of Friday, March 27, 2026. Around 5:00 AM, one of the partners was jolted awake by a chilling sensation — something cold and muscular was moving across their neck.

“It Crawled Over My Neck”

Initially disoriented and half-asleep, the partner thought they might be experiencing a nightmare or even a supernatural encounter. However, the reality was far more dangerous. Upon realizing a large snake was on the bed, they bolted from the room in a state of sheer panic, screaming for help and crying that a snake was in their bed.

The other partner, still in the room, soon heard the unmistakable hissing sound of a highly venomous Black Cobra. The snake, estimated to be about 1.5 meters (nearly 5 feet) long, had positioned itself near the headboard, visibly agitated by the sudden movement.

The Search and Rescue

Hotel staff immediately contacted local emergency responders. Mr. Suthee Naohad, a skilled snake handler known locally as “Bang Cha,” arrived at the scene to find the guests shaken and refusing to re-enter the room.

The rescue team conducted a meticulous search of the second-floor suite. After several tense minutes, they located the cobra hiding behind the headboard and underneath the bed frame. Video footage of the extraction shows the cobra lunging defensively at the handlers before being expertly pinned and placed into a secure sack.

How Did It Get In?

Experts and hotel staff were baffled as to how the cobra reached the second floor. It is believed the reptile may have climbed the stairs or exterior piping, eventually slipping into the room through a small 4-centimeter gap beneath the door.

“It’s a traveler’s worst nightmare,” one commenter wrote on the viral video. “You expect the 5-star view, not a 5-foot cobra.”

A Lucky Escape

Remarkably, despite the cobra slithering directly over the guest’s skin, neither partner was bitten. The snake was later released safely back into the wild, far from tourist accommodations.

Local authorities are now advising hotels in the region — especially those bordering Krabi’s lush jungles — to install door sweeps and conduct regular perimeter checks to prevent wildlife from checking in uninvited. For this couple, however, the “souvenir” from their trip is a story they will likely be telling (and shivering over) for the rest of their lives.
