Global warming

Over the last hundred years, human activities that release greenhouse gases have caused an increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s surface, a phenomenon known as global warming.

Human acts like burning fossil fuels, clearing forests, and improper energy and land consumption have been identified as the main drivers of global warming.

Consequences of Gloabl warming include climate changes like:

Severe Weather Events- A rise in the temperature leads to severe droughts, heat waves, storms, and floods.

Rising Sea levels.

Polar ice melting

Significant effect on ecosystems and wildlife.

Insufficient availability of food and secure drinking water.

Loss of biological diversity.

The lower and middle income countries are disproportionately affected by the negative effects of global warming while contributing the least to gas emission as compared to the high income countries that contribute grossly to emissions.

A report presented by UN warns that if gas emissions are not curbed to “net zero” by 2050, Global warming will exceed the 1.5 degree celsius threshold.

The summer of 2023 was reported to be the hottest summer to an accurate record, it was reported then that the US faced 28 billion dollar worth of disasters related to climate change.
