✨ Introduction

My name is Satyajeet Vijay (SJ), and I am a music educator from India, currently working in Dubai as a PYP Music Educator and Choir Director at an IB World School. This blog marks the beginning of my journey in sharing my thoughts as an educator, beyond the classroom and into a space of reflection.

In the Midst of Inquiry is not just a blog — it’s an extension of my own learning, thinking, and growing. It’s where I pause to write, reflect, and reconnect with the purpose behind why I teach.

Working with students continues to inspire me every day. The classroom is where I learn, question, and evolve — a space where inquiry flows both ways. I’ve realized that teaching is not just about content or delivery; it’s about co-creating meaning with those who inspire us most: our learners.

🌱 Connection to the PYP Framework

The IB PYP framework encourages us to not just teach but to inquire alongside our students — to explore, reflect, and grow. Music, within this framework, becomes a powerful lens for expression, creativity, and identity. It allows us to ask deeper questions and connect to the world in meaningful, personal ways.

Over time, inquiry has become second nature in my teaching. It informs how I design lessons, respond to student ideas, and create space for voice, choice, and ownership. My students aren’t just performing music — they’re using it to think, feel, and express who they are.

🔍 Why Reflection Matters

What I value most about my role is the time and space to reflect. This isn’t limited to lesson planning or post-performance reviews — it’s about being intentional, whether I’m with my students, my colleagues, or myself.

“It is always important to take time and plug in only when you are ready.”

Reflection is how I reset, realign, and return to the classroom with renewed purpose. It’s a rhythm that’s become essential to how I grow.

🧠 Learning from Leaders, Growing with Purpose

Much of my growth has come from what I’ve learned from school leaders, mentors, and inspiring educators who encouraged me to think deeper, act intentionally, and lead with humility.

I’ve often returned to the words of Simon Sinek, who reminds us:

“There’s no such thing as winning or losing in the infinite game — there’s only ahead and behind.”

For me, education is an infinite game — one where we build forward, not to compete, but to create impact. That’s the vision that drives my practice today: to lead with actions, not outcomes.
