When you want to do… nothing?

What Motivates You?

Sometimes, you have no choice but to be motivated. You have obligations, bills need to be paid, people need to be cared for, and, well, life goes on! Other times, you have been running a long race, and you want to take a break!

Overwhemed

I have already had a very busy April, filled with exciting, demanding events. I enjoyed all of them, and they went well. I have accomplished enough for a bit (in my mind) and am having difficulty getting on with my to-do list.

My writing was set on the back burner while I dealt with these other demands. I have deadlines in the not-too-distant future. Extra fun, I have jury duty coming up, and I don’t know how long that will take. What if I am sequestered? That almost happened last time I was called. So, I need to have things done before that date.

This feeling started yesterday, since my last big event was Sunday, and I doggedly made myself complete as many items on my to-do list as I could. I looked for the easiest items and began there.

Drabble Contest

My fun completion was meeting a drabble contest deadline. Have you ever written a drabble? I had never heard of drabbles before. In case they are new to you, as well, a drabble is a short work of fiction or poetry that is exactly 100 words long (excluding title). The word restriction tests your brevity and writing skills.

I enjoy challenging myself with contests, as you can see in some of my Medium articles. This particular challenge, sponsored by Writer’s Digest, can be found here. The prompt was an image of a young girl on a horse. I will post my entry, win or lose, after the winners are announced.

Still Demotivated Today

I had hoped to bring more energy to the keyboard today. I even have some housecleaning to do! Chores never end! I have a TBR pile calling my name. I did write some book reviews yesterday, so at least I am helping my friends! Sad that more people don’t write reviews!

Walks Can Be Inspiring

I have found one of the best ways to clear my head and be ready to begin again is to go for a walk. I am meeting a friend later today to enjoy this beautiful spring weather, and I hope it will rejuvenate my spirit. We have lively conversations that often lead to story ideas. Writing can be solitary, and mixing with others stirs up some great ideas.

Writing Prompts

I LOVE writing prompts, leading me to participate in writing challenges throughout the year. Writing prompts can also come from casual conversation. A friend recently asked me, “Where do bees go in the winter?” Interesting question! I told her it varies by species, but I couldn’t answer more specifically than that. Of course, I had to do some research…

Rest Can Be the Answer

Why do we feel guilty when we need a rest? Our bodies and brains know what we need, yet we fight it. DiAnn Mills wrote about this in her blog, posted today (timely for me!). You can read it here. Sometimes, we need to be reminded that resting and recharging are healthy choices!

How Do You Motivate Yourself?

What do you do on the blah days? Do you power through? Take a rest day? Go for a walk? There are as many different answers as people, and I am curious to hear yours!

Wishing You the Best!

Wherever the world finds you today, I hope you are doing well!
