16,078 hectares is not just land. It is a map being narrowed down

NovaRed Mining’s Wilmac project is not just a single point on a map. It is a copper-gold exploration system in British Columbia. The interesting part is that the project is moving from historical signals toward more concrete field testing.

In junior mining, everyone waits for the word drilling. But before drilling, there is always a quieter stage without which a real drill target does not come together.

First, old data has to be collected. Then the team has to see where signals repeat, check soil geochemistry, layer in geophysics, choose grids — and only then decide where it actually makes sense to place a drill rig.

That is why the Wilmac Copper-Gold Project looks interesting. NovaRed Mining’s project covers approximately 16,078 hectares in the Quesnel porphyry belt, in the Similkameen Mining Division of British Columbia, southwest of Princeton. Another important detail: Wilmac is located roughly 10 km west of Hudbay Minerals’ producing Copper Mountain Mine.

That does not mean Wilmac automatically becomes Copper Mountain 2.0. Geology does not work that way. But in copper-gold porphyry exploration, location matters. The belt matters. Historical signals matter. And when there is already a producing copper mine nearby, the market usually pays more attention to new targets inside the same broader geological system.

Wilmac is interesting not only because of its size. It is interesting because a large land package is starting to break into specific zones for testing.

In June, NovaRed announced its planned 2026 field program for Wilmac. The program includes an expanded soil sampling campaign, four IP/AMT geophysical surveys across the North Lamont, West Lamont, Wilmac and Plume grids, and an initial drill program subject to receipt of an approved drill permit.

I like that sequence. This is not just “we want to drill.” It is soil work, geophysics, grid-level targeting, and only then a drill program. For early-stage copper-gold exploration, that is a much healthier logic, because every drill meter is expensive, and a strong target should be prepared before money goes into the ground.

North Lamont, West Lamont, Wilmac and Plume are no longer just abstract parts of a land package. They are four separate grids that can be compared, refined and advanced one by one. That structure makes the project easier to read: not just “a large land package,” but several zones where repeating signals can be tested.

Another important point is that Wilmac has a historical base that can now be used as a starting map, not as a dead archive.

In a July update, NovaRed said its MetalCore assessment of Wilmac integrated 10 mineral occurrences, data regarding past production, approximately 19 assessment reports filed between 1968 and 2025, 38 regional geochemical samples and a regional aeromagnetic field survey into one prioritized target set.

On its own, one historical report may not change much. One occurrence may only be a dot on a map. One geochemical sample may be a weak signal. But when 19 reports, 10 occurrences, geochemistry and aeromagnetic data are brought into one working picture, that becomes a different level of preparation.

Not magic. Not a guarantee of discovery. But a practical way to shorten the path from old data to a field decision.

That matters because copper exploration cannot work completely blind. The world needs more copper for grids, substations, data centers, EV charging, storage, automation and defense electronics. But new copper supply does not begin at the moment of production. It begins at stages like Wilmac is in now: target generation, soil sampling, IP/AMT, permitting and drilling.

The market often waits for the big final headline. But the real work starts earlier — when a company has to understand which parts of 16,078 hectares truly deserve the most attention.

Where historical signals overlap with new layers. Where geophysics supports the geological idea. Where soil work helps narrow the area. Where a grid can become a drill-ready target.

That is why Wilmac looks like a project worth watching even before drilling. In a good exploration story, the important moment is not only when the drill is already turning. It is also when a large map begins to become a concrete plan.

To me, Wilmac is at exactly that stage now.

16,078 hectares is the starting area. 10 mineral occurrences are historical points of interest. 19 assessment reports are the project’s archive memory. Four IP/AMT surveys are a modern way to sharpen the picture. An initial drill program is the next logical step if the targets come together properly.

The future copper pipeline does not start with a finished mine. It starts when a large map stops being just land — and becomes a plan for the first serious drill target.
