As the sage prepared to depart, he intended to bestow his accumulated Tapasya (penance) upon Bappa. However, Bappa, burdened by the duties of a newly crowned king, arrived a heartbeat too late. In his final moments, the Sage asked Bappa to open his mouth. In a moment of human hesitation, Bappa closed it, and the divine grace fell upon his feet rather than his throat.

The Boon and the Burden

Harit Rishi’s words sealed the destiny of Mewar. He prophesied that while Bappa’s lineage would be invincible, they would also endure eternal struggle — a penance for that single moment of hesitation. This explains the paradox of Mewar’s history: they were never conquered in spirit, yet they faced more sieges and hardship than any other kingdom in Bharat.

The Philosophy of the ‘Diwan’

The most profound outcome of this pact was the humility of the Ranas. They never styled themselves as absolute monarchs. Instead, they pledged that Lord Eklingnath was the true ruler of Mewar, and they were merely his Diwans (Representatives). This spiritual framework turned their throne into a seat of sacrifice rather than power.

For 1300 years, Mewar stood as a sentinel of Indian civilization, not because of a king’s ego, but because of a servant’s devotion.

अंतिम मिलन और एक ‘दिव्य चूक’

मेवाड़ का गौरव केवल महलों या युद्धों में नहीं, बल्कि उस ‘आध्यात्मिक प्रतिज्ञा’ में निहित है जो बप्पा रावल ने अपने गुरु हारीत ऋषि के समक्ष ली थी। हारीत ऋषि, जो त्रिकालदर्शी थे, जानते थे कि उनका प्रस्थान निकट है। वे अपनी वर्षों की तपस्या का फल बप्पा को सौंपना चाहते थे।

किंतु, राज्य के भार में उलझे बप्पा, गुरु के पास पहुँचने में थोड़े विलंबित हो गए। जब वे पहुँचे, तो गुरु का विमान प्रस्थान के लिए तैयार था। गुरु ने बप्पा से मुँह खोलने को कहा, पर एक क्षण की चूक में बप्पा मुँह बंद कर बैठे। वह दिव्य ऊर्जा उनके चरणों में गिरी।

संघर्ष और गौरव का अटूट नाता

हारीत ऋषि ने कहा, “बेटा, यदि तुमने यह समय पर ग्रहण किया होता तो तुम अजेय होते, पर अब यह तुम्हारे पैरों में गिरा है। जा, मेरा आशीर्वाद है कि जब तक तुम और तुम्हारे वंशज मेवाड़ की धरती पर रहोगे, कोई तुम्हें हिला नहीं पाएगा।” लेकिन साथ ही उन्होंने चेतावनी भी दी कि उन्हें युगों-युगों तक भीषण संघर्ष झेलने पड़ेंगे।

मेवाड़ का 1300 साल का इतिहास इसी ‘श्राप’ और ‘वरदान’ का संगम है। जितने आक्रमण मेवाड़ ने झेले, उतने शायद ही किसी ने झेले हों, लेकिन उसी ‘वरदान’ ने उन्हें कभी झुकने नहीं दिया।

एकलिंगजी के दीवान: सत्ता से ऊपर सेवा का दर्शन

इस घटना ने मेवाड़ के पूरे राजतंत्र को बदल दिया। बप्पा रावल ने स्वयं को ‘एकलिंगजी का दीवान’ घोषित किया। मेवाड़ का राजा स्वयं को भगवान का सेवक मानता था। यही वह दर्शन था, जिसने महाराणाओं को अहंकारी नहीं, बल्कि ‘त्यागी’ बनाया। 1300 वर्षों का संघर्ष इसी समर्पण की कसौटी थी।
