A Message for Those Who Don’t Understand My Style

After ten months of silence, I’m deciding today to speak frankly. Not to defend my work, but to clarify who I really am as an author.

The Story Behind Roxane & Axro

When I started writing Roxane & Axro, it wasn’t to create a “typical children’s book.” It was a personal urgency: finding a way for my family to share a story together.

As a child, I had a younger sister who loved to read and a younger brother who enjoyed it less. Different approaches. Not better or worse. Just different. And me, I was in between them, looking for a book that could speak to us all.

Today, as a mom, I have two generations at home. Same challenge. How do I create something so the child discovers, the parent guides and observes, and the grandparent transmits wisdom?

I created my in-between.

Why I Write Like This

My style isn’t “slow” by accident. It’s intentional.

I want you to breathe when you read. To imagine. To take time painting pictures in your minds. In a world where everything moves fast, I chose the opposite.

The text is large. The illustrations are small but present. The book is thick, thick enough that you feel you’re making progress. Because finishing a book is a victory. And every reader should be able to feel it.

My Narrative Choices (and Why They Exist)

-No first names for Mom and Grandpa? Because I want your child to imagine your own parents. So the story is universal. So every family can recognize themselves.

-No specific age for Roxane? For the same reason. Let your child project their own age, their own questions, their own sense of wonder.

-References for parents (Spice Girls, “Bewitched”)? Because reading together is also laughing together. It’s a moment of complicity where generations meet.

-Small illustrations + fluid writing and large font? Because every reader deserves to feel that their reading counts. Every character plays a role. Every generation plays a role. And visually, the illustrations remind you that this isn’t just text — it’s a complete experience where everyone has their place.

The Key Phrase: Every Generation Is a Hero

Throughout the saga, every character matters. The child who discovers with Roxane. The parent who observes. The grandparent who knows secrets. Each one has a role based on their age, their generation.

This isn’t a story where the child saves the world alone. This is a story where everyone counts. Because in real life, everyone counts.

What I Am (and What I’m Not)

I am:

  • For families who read together
  • For children who imagine slowly
  • For caring parents
  • For children or anyone who struggles with reading
  • Poetic, fluid, respectful
  • A thick book where you feel you’re making progress

I am not:

  • A thriller
  • Fast-paced
  • For rushed readers
  • Quick mainstream
  • A story where the child reads alone with friends

Why I’m Saying This Now

Because after ten months, I realize something: it’s not that my work doesn’t work. It’s that I hadn’t yet said clearly who I am.

I was speaking to everyone. And when you speak to everyone, you speak to no one.

Now I say: if my style is for you, keep going. Welcome to my tribe. If it’s not for you, that’s okay. Go find your book elsewhere. I’d rather touch the right readers deeply than touch many people superficially.

For You, Right Now

Roxane & Axro exists in four volumes in French and English. It’s a multigenerational saga, a shared reading experience. It’s waiting for your family.

If you’re looking for a book to read together. If your children ask questions and you have time to really answer. If you believe magic exists in slow details and gentle moments.

Then welcome. Every generation is a hero in this story.
