Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue/Phoebus Volunteer Fire Company Honors Memorial Day with Wreath Laying Ceremonies Across the City

Continuing a sacred tradition spanning decades, members of the Phoebus Volunteer Fire Company, alongside personnel from the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue’s Station 2, gathered early Monday morning to honor the nation’s fallen heroes for Memorial Day.

Participants visited six local cemeteries throughout the Hampton area, conducting solemn wreath-laying ceremonies and moments of reflection to pay tribute to the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country and community.

The annual tribute is a cornerstone of the Phoebus Volunteer Fire Company’s history, reflecting a deep, generational commitment to ensuring that the legacy of local and national military heroes is never forgotten.

“This tradition is our way of ensuring that their sacrifice is honored today, tomorrow, and for decades to come,” said Amanda Wroten, Public Information Officer for the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue. “It is a privilege for our members to stand together and keep this promise to our community and our veterans.”

The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue is a combination agency utilizing over 300 full-time personnel and volunteers to protect more than 136,000 residents and visitors. Operating from 11 strategic fire stations across 53 square miles, the Division provides fire protection, emergency medical services, and community risk reduction. Established in 1884, the agency achieved the distinction of being the first combination fire and rescue department in Virginia to hold an ISO-1 rating and full accreditation from the CFAI and Center for Public Safety Excellence.
