Traveling by myself and seeing places without anyone to help me is really exciting. And, a little scary at the same time.
I’ve heard multiple types of warnings throughout my life about traveling. Be careful. Don’t ever trust strangers. What if something goes wrong? Isn’t it better to travel with at least one person?
Some of those warnings were literally valid. But I realized that if I wait for the right amount of confidence, it could even cost me my whole life.
So I did something that I couldn’t even imagine doing alone. I packed my things and planned a ten-day solo trip to Paris, Prague, and Budapest.
Traveling around the different countries of the world alone somehow helped me explore some unique sides of myself.
I started taking an interest in and enjoying my personal company.
It was an experience I could imagine without the constant noise of everyday life. I noticed things I might normally overlook — a quiet dawn, a conversation between strangers, comfort exploring at my own pace.
I Learned To Trust My Decisions
When you travel alone, all your wishes are yours.
Which path to take. Where to stay. What to do when plans change.
At first, it felt like too much. I’ll never forget standing in some strange place in the streets of Prague, searching the map, wondering if turning around would be the best choice.
But every little choice built trust.
I realized that I don’t want company or to be dependent on anyone for making my decisions.
But after traveling alone, I believe that I can solve problems on my own, adapt to challenges, and figure things out without depending on anyone else.
Strength Is Not Always Loud
Strength seemed fearless before my trip.
But now, strength looks unique or different.
Sometimes strength turns out to be boarding a bus, even if I feel nervous. Sometimes it's about asking for help when you want it.
Maybe it’s just believing in yourself in situations you’ve never encountered before.
There were moments when I questioned whether spending ten days on a trip was the right decision, as it was my first time taking this much time off from my usual responsibilities. But I kept going anyway.
And I learned that bravery is not the absence of fear — it’s about doing things when scared.
Every place I visited taught me something new, not so much the most useful thing about the world, but more often about myself:
- Paris helped me learn to slow down and appreciate the beauty of its wonderful creations.
- Every place and person in Prague had a story shaped by history that helped me learn to embrace change without losing my roots.
- Budapest's various occupations, revolutions, and dramatic political changes taught me that hard experiences don’t have to erase joy while making you more powerful.
Stepping Outside Our Comfort Zone
I think we all benefit from doing something outside our comfort zone, which reminds us of our potential.
For me, walking on my own path and traveling alone became that joy.
Leaving familiar territories led to a lot of growth. It reminded me that confidence is built through taking action, not through waiting.
And most importantly, it taught me that power is not something we suddenly acquire.
It’s something we discover that has always been inside us.
Final Thoughts
Traveling alone not only made me fearless and helped me build confidence, it made me believe in myself more. It taught me how to navigate uncertainty, clean things up, and create meaningful stories of my own.
And it’s probably one of the most empowering lessons a woman can learn:
We are much more capable than we give ourselves credit for!
