Let Friday Be Friday

Not everything left on the list needs to follow me into the weekend.

It’s Friday.

And before I start looking at everything I didn’t get done this week, I’m reminding myself to look at what I did.

Decisions were made.

Problems were handled.

Priorities changed.

Some things went according to plan.

Others absolutely did not. 😂

And somehow, we made it to Friday.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about staying flexible — making the best decision with the information I have instead of trying to predict everything that comes next.

Friday requires some of that same judgment.

Because there’s always something else I could do.

Another email.

Another follow-up.

Another task I could squeeze in before closing the laptop.

But could doesn’t always mean should.

The List Doesn’t Have to Be Empty

There was a time when unfinished work could make me feel like I hadn’t done enough.

I’m learning to challenge that.

An unfinished list doesn’t automatically mean I had an unsuccessful week.

Sometimes it means priorities changed.

Sometimes something unexpected deserved my attention.

Sometimes I deliberately decided that one thing mattered more than another.

And sometimes I simply reached the limits of two hands and a finite number of hours. 😂

That’s not failure.

That’s capacity.

Friday Requires Prioritization Too

So before I start trying to cram everything into the final hours of the week, I’m asking:

What genuinely needs to happen today?

What would create a real problem if I left it until Monday?

What can wait?

And what am I only trying to finish because I want the satisfaction of checking it off?

Those aren’t always the same things.

Leadership isn’t just deciding what gets done.

Sometimes it’s having enough judgment to decide what doesn’t need to get done yet.

Close the Week

Whatever genuinely needs me today will get my attention.

I’ll handle what I can.

I’ll make the decisions that need to be made.

I’ll use the same two hands I’ve been using all week.

And when those hands have given Friday what they realistically have to give?

I’m going to stop.

The list can keep whatever is left.

Monday will be here soon enough.

I don’t need to finish everything to finish the week.

Sometimes Friday simply needs permission to be Friday.

And I’m giving it that.

Now let me finish this coffee and see what Friday has planned for me. ☕😂💙
