Aromatherapy with essential oils is quite commonly used nowadays. They are diluted organic plant extracts to improve well-being or even used as a mosquito repellent—lavender for relaxation, yiang yiang for refreshment, eucalyptus for anti-inflammation, etc.

Though I’m not a keen admirer, I do make use of them to relax, especially after a long writing session. The day I visited Tai O with a friend, we discovered an attractive souvenir to take away.

The aromatherapist repacked her blended essential oils in these little glass bottles. By wrapping them in paper clay with hand-painted florals, they are worth more than just functional. We bought four for $100 (US$12.8) as souvenirs at last.

I was surprised to find these hidden gems in a fishing village. And I was glad to replace their famous dried shrimp or salted fish as a souvenir with this pleasant aroma, finally.
