5 Initiatives of Karunanidhi That Changed Tamil Nadu

Karunanidhi, one of the most influential and unforgettable leaders of Tamil Nadu, introduced many welfare schemes during his tenure.

On his birthday, let us explore 5 Initiatives that changed Tamil Nadu. This blog has nothing to do with my political views or support.

1. IT Parks During Karunanidhi’s tenure, Tamil Nadu witnessed significant growth in the IT sector. In 1998, the Tamil Nadu government established a separate Department for Information Technology. In 2000, an IT park was inaugurated in Taramani, Chennai, at a cost of Rs.338 crore.
2. SIPCOT State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited was formed in 1971 to promote industrial growth in the state. It is a government agency that was launched to attract various businessmen across India and the globe to start their business in Tamil Nadu.
3. Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board The Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board was formed in 1970 to make Chennai a slum-free district. In 2010, he announced “Kalaignar Veedu Vazhangum Thittam” to reduce the slums.
4. Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Act The Act, which came into effect in 1970, was focused on developing the water supply and drainage systems of the state.
5. Uzhavar Santhai In order to eliminate the middlemen between farmers and consumers, the Uzhavar Santhai scheme was introduced. This ensured that farmers received fair prices for their produce while consumers could buy agricultural products at reasonable prices.

Even though Karunanidhi has been widely criticised for various problems in Tamil Nadu, his development programs laid the foundation for modern Tamil Nadu.
