The Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 is a heavy-bodied cruiser bike with a strong 500cc engine. When I was in my second semester, I rode this bike to Itanagar for my personal work. The bike belonged to one of my seniors, and I asked him if I could ride it. At first, the bike looked very strong and heavy. Before riding it, I did not know that it was a 500cc bike. I thought it was the same as the Thunderbird 350 because both bikes share almost the same body design, and only the engine and logo are different. One comes with the 350 logo and the other with the 500 logo.

When I rode this bike for the first time, I felt that the engine character was almost the same as the Thunderbird 350. The bike was rough, and the vibration level was very high. At first, I felt insecure while riding because the rear part of the bike looked very heavy while the front part felt light. This bike did not have ABS, so I was afraid that the front tyre might slide. In the beginning, I was uncomfortable riding it, but after riding for about one and a half hours, I slowly became used to the bike.

The engine produced a lot of heat, which I could feel near my feet. The vibration was also very strong, almost like a body massage. The bike shares the same body style as the Thunderbird 350 but comes with a more powerful 499cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces around 27.2 bhp power and 41.3 Nm torque. The Thunderbird 500 also features a large 20-liter fuel tank and a semi-digital instrument console where the speedometer is analog while the fuel indicator and other information are digital.

Overall, this bike gives good engine performance and strong power for highway riding and touring. I would suggest this bike for working people or touring riders, but not for students because the bike consumes a lot of fuel, and many students may find it expensive to maintain without having a job or stable income.
