My scepticism skyrockets

A comment I made on this platform received a few claps from “Johnny Depp” today. I regret being so cynical but my thoughts were “Yeah, right”.

One reason I’m dubious is that I’d read an article where a lady was having a terrible time because her mother was convinced she was in an online romance with Johnny Depp and had been sending money to “Johnny”.

Let’s face it, the real Johnny Depp isn’t short of money and he meets glamorous actresses who he could possibly date.

I have seen articles suggested as reading material on this platform by former President Obama. There are well-known people who write content here.

There can be more than one person with the same name. A lady who was a pupil at the same school as me but a couple of years younger shared my name “Patricia” and later married a Mr O’Neill (no relation of mine) so there were two Patricia O’Neills in my hometown.

So there COULD be another Johnny Depp.

It’s finished now but there used to be a comedy show on British TV called ‘The Vicar of Dibley’. It was written by and starred Dawn French as a female vicar. In one episode the vicar learns that someone called Reg Dwight was coming to the village. The vicar, knowing that Elton John’s original name was Reg Dwight, plans to get him involved in publicity. However, the visitor turns out to be a different Reg Dwight. It happens that Kylie Minogue calls by in the hope of seeing Elton, so Kylie is able to do the publicity. So a British comedy programme used a plot where two people had the same name.

There is an outside chance that my comment was liked by the famous Johnny Depp. Sadly, there are so many scams these days that I take a lot of things with a grain of salt.
