RIOT: A Statement in Response to Global Reality.

Since always, when words aren’t enough, the streets speak. Riot is not just chaos and destruction; it’s the collective cry of a society that refuses to stay silent in the face of injustice. It is a raw and direct response when power does not listen, and voices are drowned in silence.
Throughout history, riots have been much more than quick reactions: they have been tools of protest, signs of exhaustion, and urgent demands for change. From the civil rights marches in the United States to the youth uprisings that have shaken cities worldwide, riots are a way to say, through action, what institutions refuse to hear. But looking beyond the fire and rubble reveals an even harsher truth: in any conflict, the most vulnerable always suffer the most. When war breaks out, children pay the highest price.

War does not choose its victims. It does not care if they are soldiers or children. Millions of children around the world live trapped in realities they did not choose, marked by fear, displacement, and loss. According to UNICEF, children in conflict zones face forced displacement, orphanhood, abuse, and the violation of their basic rights. Every explosion not only destroys homes; it also takes away childhoods. And while their voices may be silenced, their pain echoes, impossible to ignore.
In Colombia, the numbers show a terrifying reality. In 2023 alone, there were 35,339 cases of child violence: 607 homicides and more than 19,000 cases of sexual violence.
Each number is a broken story, a life marked by pain and injustice. These statistics are not just cold facts; they are an urgent call to act, to protect those who cannot defend themselves. In this dark reality, art becomes an act of resistance and a way to speak out. Over time, it has been both a mirror reflecting injustice and a voice that does not fear to disturb.
From murals shouting in the streets to digital illustrations shared on social media, every piece has the power to provoke, question, and, most importantly, make us think.
