Why I Built “KILL TIME LOL” — A Retro Dot-Art Extension to Cure Desktop Boredom

How my craving for offline mobile games led me to build a retro mini-game hub right inside my Chrome browser.

Whenever I have a few minutes of downtime, my hand automatically reaches for my phone. I’ve always had a soft spot for classic, offline mobile games — the ones that don’t require a 5G connection, complex tutorials, or intense brainpower. Just pure, instant fun.

But lately, I found myself wishing I could have that same quick, nostalgic escape right on my computer.

Imagine you are in the middle of a heavy coding session, waiting for a build to finish, or just needing a 3-minute mental breather between tasks. Opening a heavy desktop game or picking up your phone can break your focus entirely.

So, I thought: “Why not build a lightweight arcade that lives right inside my browser?”

That’s how KILL TIME LOL was born.

What is “KILL TIME LOL”?

As the name suggests, it’s a Chrome extension designed purely to help you kill some time when you need a quick break.

No heavy loading screens, no complicated rules — just open the extension and start playing instantly.

The Lineup (And Why Dot Art?)

I’ve always been obsessed with Dot Art (Pixel Art). There is something incredibly charming and cozy about limited resolution and retro aesthetics. So, I decided to style the entire extension with custom dot-art assets to give it that nostalgic, tactile arcade feel.

Currently, the extension features four legendary classic games:

• SNAKE 🐍 — The ultimate classic. Grow your snake without biting your own tail.
• TETRIS 🧱 — Clear lines and stack blocks with satisfying retro vibes.
• AVOID ☄️ — A fast-paced reflex game. Dodge incoming obstacles for as long as you can!
• MINE 💣 — The classic Minesweeper. Use logic to clear the grid without blowing up.

This is just the beginning. I want to keep expanding KILL TIME LOL with more classic, addictive games.
