Love Is Mostly in the Little Things

So, since I am basically the principal of The Overthinking Institution, a significant portion of my life goes into observing people, overanalysing their behaviour, and then deciding whether those observations made me emotional, happy, or just dramatically existential for no reason.

Very recently, I found myself noticing couples around me more carefully. Not in a creepy way, just in a “my brain notices everything” kind of way. I noticed people doing little things for each other. Tiny gestures. Casual acts of care. The kind of things that might look insignificant to someone else but somehow stayed in my head for hours.

And what surprised me the most was this: even imagining those things happening to me made me feel happy.

Not grand declarations. Not expensive gifts. Not movie-level romance. Just simple gestures.

Someone sending her favorite dessert because she casually mentioned she was having a bad day. Someone ordering comfort food for her when she’s on her period because they remembered what she likes. Someone sending a long paragraph about why they love her while she’s asleep so she wakes up feeling chosen. Someone buying flowers randomly, not because they messed up, but simply because they saw them and thought of her. Watching movies together and discussing scenes like they’re film critics. Cooking food for someone because feeding people you love feels intimate in the purest way possible.

And I think that’s when it hit me: gestures are such a huge part of love.

Because gestures are never just gestures. They are evidence. Evidence that you pay attention. Evidence that you remember things. Evidence that someone exists in your mind even when they are not physically around you.

I genuinely think the way someone treats you in small moments tells you more about love than big words ever can.

Anyone can say “I love you.” But remembering how she likes her coffee? Sending her memes throughout the day because you know it’ll make her laugh? Calling her after a difficult meeting because you know she gets anxious? Those things say, “I know you.” And honestly, there is something incredibly intimate about being known.

And I think one of the purest forms of love is priority.

Not the loud kind that people post online. Not the performative kind. But the quiet kind. The kind where someone naturally makes space for you in their life. Where you don’t constantly have to ask for time, attention, reassurance, or effort because they willingly give it to you.

I think being loved properly feels a lot like being considered naturally.

Because people make time for the things that matter to them. And when someone consistently chooses you in small, ordinary moments, you stop feeling like an option and start feeling like home.

There is something deeply healing about not having to beg for consistency. About being with someone who makes you feel important without you having to question it every other day.

I think a lot of people underestimate softness in relationships. They think love has to constantly look dramatic or intense to be real. But personally, I think love often looks like consideration.

It looks like: “Did you eat?” “I saw this and thought of you.” “Text me when you reach home.” “You sounded upset today, are you okay?”

And maybe because I overthink everything, I notice these things more deeply than I should. But I genuinely believe people stay where they feel valued. Where they feel wanted. Where love is not just spoken, but shown repeatedly through actions.

And before someone misinterprets this as me saying only men should do these things, absolutely not. Women should do these things too. They absolutely do.

But I also think women, by nature, are reciprocators. They often mirror the love, effort, softness, and emotional safety they receive. Once a woman genuinely feels loved, valued, and emotionally secure, she will move mountains for the person she loves.

She will remember everything about you. She will show up for you in ways you didn’t even know you needed. She will become your safest place without even realising it.

I think that’s why gestures matter so much. They create emotional safety. They quietly tell someone, “You matter to me.” And honestly, what is love if not consistently making someone feel chosen in ordinary moments?

Maybe that’s what all of us are looking for in the end.

Not perfection. Not grand romance every single day. Just someone who notices us carefully. Someone who remembers the little things. Someone who makes us feel like a priority, not a convenience. Someone whose love feels soft enough to rest in after a difficult day.

Because at the end of everything, I think love is less about finding someone extraordinary and more about finding someone who never makes you question whether you matter to them.
