Chicago’s Job market has seen many ups and downs since the pandemic hit. Starting off with 2020, the economy of the city and the job market faced many issues, with the highest unemployment rates in the graph. All sectors of the job market were affected by the pandemic, making job opportunities very scarce, and unemployment rates to surge. Employers were not in a position to hire new people and had to lose many employees due to lack of ability to pay, and job positions to fulfill as businesses declined and suffered. 2021, there was a significant improvement as companies in various sectors learned to deal with the pandemic, and new job openings emerged, especially in healthcare, technology, and logistics. However, there were still many issues faced with labor shortages and changes in employees desire for work schedules. Many people began to opt for working from home, changing the office dynamic and atmosphere.
