Murder at the Wanderer’s Tavern — WT 16
Six suspects. One victim. Countless truths.

That morning, the tavern was just ready to start the day.
The innkeeper unlocked the front door, opened all the windows, and let the fresh summer breeze enter the tavern.
Nothing seemed unusual. At least for the moment.
A chair was slightly out of place. A candle had burnt itself into a puddle of wax. One mug remained on a table, half full. Someone had forgotten a scarf. Another had left muddy footprints leading nowhere in particular.
It looked like any other morning after a busy night.
Then they found the storyteller's body.
Something about the scene felt… wrong. This was no peaceful passing. Someone had ensured the storyteller would never tell another tale.
The storyteller had always claimed every tavern held two things: the finest stories… and the darkest secrets.
This morning, they would tell neither. Who would have thought that last night was the last tale that this world ever heard from the storyteller?
The innkeeper remembered every tale from the night before. They were the finest stories the tavern had hosted all year. Each one stirred the room in a different way. Some drew cheers. Others ignited arguments. A few brought listeners to tears. More than once, the tavern fell into heavy silence as people wrestled with the storyteller’s words. No one left unchanged.
Besides the innkeeper, there were only six visitors who had remained inside after closing.
- The Lost Traveller
- The Morally Grey Alchemist
- The Runaway Villager
- The Broke Farmer
- The Secretive Merchant
- The Retired Knight
Six suspects. One victim. Countless truths.
Now the case belongs to you. Who killed the storyteller? How was it done? What clue exposed the truth — or led everyone in the wrong direction?
Or perhaps…
Was it murder at all? How did the storyteller die?
Your challenge is to weave a tale of this case.
Make up something. Anything. Clever, tragic, surreal, hilarious, impossible. Every writer begins with the same six suspects, but no two mysteries should end the same.
After all, stories were the heartbeat of the tavern.

The Storyteller’s Rules
The storyteller was known for insisting on a few simple rules whenever a tale was told:
- Put the secret tale code WT 16 somewhere in your title.
- No tale should be created by an artificial mind.
- Include at least one image in your story and mention its source.
- There is no word limit, but keep your readers comfortably engaged.
- Make sure your tale is grammatically clean.
- Submit your tale’s draft to Wanderer’s Tavern. (If you’re not one of our storytellers yet, ask to be added in the comments.)
- Tag @metamarvelia and @sumedh-pimplikar so your tale doesn’t get lost among the endless notifications.
- Submission Period: July 2nd — July 31st, 2026 The case is officially open. You have until July 31st to investigate the crime, uncover the truth, and submit your tale.
- The winning story will be announced during the first week of August 2026.
Until then, every theory is possible. Every suspect has a secret. Every clue may be the one that solves the case.
May the odds be with us.
