The Public Sector Boom: Why Bloated Numbers Are Crippling the UK Economy..🙄

The UK economy is barely moving. Growth is anaemic. Productivity is weak. Yet one area shows no sign of slowing down: the public sector. 🤯

The numbers tell the story.

In 1999, public sector employment stood at 4.3 million.

Today, it’s 5.2 million.

The Civil Service alone added 4,000 employees in the last year.

The NHS? Now at a record 1.8 million staff, up 35,000 in just 12 months.

Altogether(incl part timers), the British state employs 6.2 million adults. 🤯

And that’s just the payroll. Alongside them:

6.5 million people receiving benefits.

A state pension about to rise another 4.7%.

These are staggering figures. 🤯

Nobody doubts the need for essential services. But the scale of expansion is not sustainable. The UK is piling costs onto taxpayers, fuelling inefficiency, and widening the gap between what the economy produces and what the state consumes.

This is the contradiction we must face: if we want the UK economy back on track, we cannot ignore the bloat of the public sector.

Hard choices lie ahead. But pretending these numbers are normal is not an option.
