Amazon Sellers: UPS Is Auto-Changing Return Addresses and Triggering Address Correction Fees — Root Cause Identified & Fix HERE!

I’m sharing this to save other Amazon sellers time, money, and sanity — since Amazon has refused to any explanation helping anyone with this workaround through their customer case log support.

After months of unexplained carrier “address correction / suite missing” charges being passed through by Amazon, and hundreds of dollars of earning loss almost putting my FBM store out of business, I finally got a definitive answer directly from UPS.

🔎 What’s Actually Happening

UPS confirmed that they are automatically adding a unit identifier (e.g., “Suite 2”) to Amazon-generated return labels, even when:

The seller’s address is otherwise correct

The building receives deliveries fine without a suite

Amazon generated the label (seller cannot edit it)

When UPS adds a suite internally that does not exactly match what Amazon has on file, UPS treats this as an address correction, bills Amazon, and Amazon then passes the charge to the seller.

Important:

This happens even if packages have always been delivered successfully to the same address.

🧾 What UPS Told Me (Directly)

UPS has a canonical address record for many buildings

If UPS believes a unit/suite exists, they will insert it automatically

If Amazon’s label does not already include that suite, UPS bills an address correction fee

Amazon does not notify sellers of this behavior

In my case, UPS confirmed they were adding “Suite 2” to my Amazon return labels.

The Fix (That Actually Works)

You must proactively match Amazon’s return address EXACTLY to what UPS has on record.

Here’s what to do:

Call UPS directly (don’t guess)

Ask them:

“What is the exact address format UPS has on file for my building?”

If UPS confirms a suite/unit (even if deliveries work without it):

Update your Amazon return address to include that exact suite

Save changes and monitor future carrier charges

Once you update the Amazon address to match UPS’s internal format, the address correction fees SHOULD STOP.

⚠️ Why This Is a Big Deal

Sellers cannot edit Amazon return labels

Amazon does not warn sellers this is happening

Charges appear random unless you know the root cause

Multiple sellers are being hit with recurring fees

This appears to be a systemic UPS → Amazon → Seller cost pass-through

Amazon support currently offers no guidance on this and repeatedly redirects sellers in circles.

📌 Key Takeaway

If you’re seeing unexplained UPS address correction / suite missing fees:

👉 Do not assume your address is wrong

👉 Call UPS and confirm what they are adding

👉 Then update Amazon to match UPS — not USPS, not common sense

🤝 Sharing This So Others Don’t Have to Learn the Hard Way

I’m posting this because many sellers are dealing with the same issue, and some are already reporting regulatory attention.

If this helps you, please share this article in the Amazon forums so other sellers can fix it before more fees stack up.

Successful selling to you all.
