My Writing is Imperfect, but I like it.

I don’t have a schedule, a writing style, or even an editor. You can say that it’s a mess over here.

My earliest memory of writing is more of a ‘collated fragment’ of school poems, assignments, and going through the script for Christmas plays. The more vivid memory is from class 9. I wrote a poem for a competition. It was on ‘The Deep Blue Sea.’ There was a 20-minute timeline. With zero expectation and 100% excitement- and an evolving cerebral cortex, I wrote. And I guess someone actually liked it. I was chosen for the program. Yaay.

Writing has always been that for me. Simple, exciting, nothing too serious. But, as it is with adulting, there’s responsibility tied to everything- even writing.

There’s the pressure to sound smarter, more eloquent, more put-together. Your fun Think-pieces start to show a sharp contrast against the wave of ‘detailed writing’ that’s flooding the Internet. Your writing starts to look like gibberish and is apparently unclean. You trail along while everything else seems to go Straight To The Point. Bullet points falling off pages and shooting you directly in the heart- reminding you to get out of your romanticized rut, and into the reality of ‘writing is serious business.’

Now, don’t get me wrong. Writing should be good. It should have focus. It should be grammatically correct, most of the time - I think. This also means that our writing should be thoroughly researched or thought through. But it shouldn’t feel like you have a gun to your head. Like you’re pouring out how-tos and to-do lists that you don’t even believe in. Or those motivational pieces that clearly got printed out after a cup of coffee with Chatgpt.

And then there’s the A.I takeover.

Long write-ups that sound like my Economics lecturer decided to open a Medium page and write about entertainment- which is fine if that’s what he’s into. The engineered and mechanical writing that is literally unable to portray your emotions as you would like it to. And I know that I sound slightly bitter, but that’s just because my spell checker always tries to make my writing less emotional, when all I want is for my reader to feel exactly what I feel! Sigh

Nevertheless, A.I is a sufficient tool. In the near future, it will get smarter, cooler, and maybe even a bit more melancholy, but until then, please do stick with the Human that is me.

Writing is fun and messy. It’s emotional and sometimes cuts deep.

It’s pretty much like the deep blue sea- beautiful, soulful, a little scary, a little enticing, and more importantly, so much more to offer.
