College football stadiums are loud, emotional places. There is a lot of passion among the fans because there is just something special about cheering for one’s school or alma mater.

Among the loudest places to play in the country are LSU’s Death Valley, Washington’s Huskie Stadium, Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium, Texas A&M’s Kyle Field and Alabama’s Bryant-Denny.

And then there is Autzen Stadium, home of the Oregon Ducks. According to Gary Hussey of San Diego, who attended a Ducks game and wrote this story about the Oregon football experience for PubClub.com, it’s something else.

“Autzen is famous for being loud, but you don’t really understand it until you’re in the middle of it,” he blogged. “The noise doesn’t just come from the stands, it’s just everywhere around you, bouncing off the walls and settling in your chest. Every first down chant, every third-down stand, every eruption after a big play feels like it adds another layer of adrenaline. The fans weren’t just there to watch football; they were there to be part of it. Entire families came dressed head-to-toe in Duck gear, students turned the student section into a wall of sound, and even the moments of quiet you could still feel the hum around you.”

He also mentioned Puddles, the Oregon Duck mascot, needing assistance from the cheerleaders to do his pushups during a 69-point game against Oklahoma State. And the tradition that traces is origins back to a classic fraternity movie filmed on the Oregon campus.

“As the third quarter wound down, the entire stadium came alive in unison for Oregon’s tradition of blasting the ‘Shout’ song from Animal House,” he wrote.

So if you want to see passionate college football fans, go to a game. Tho at some places like Autzen Stadium, you’ll need to be prepared for a lot of noise.
