The Spam Ceiling: Why iOS 26.6 will finally warn you if you block too many numbers.

iOS 26.6 update from Apple seems to contain updated information regarding the blocked contact limits, although the extent of the changes in the actual limits is unclear.

In the code of the beta release of the new update, the warning message about reaching the maximum amount of blocked contacts can be found. This message reads, “You’ve reached the maximum number of blocked contacts. To block additional callers, remove a blocked contact in Settings” and is called “Blocked Contacts Limit Reached.”

Considering that many users have reported being unable to block further contacts upon reaching the limit of 20,000 blocked contacts, while others have claimed their problems occurred at much lower limits, such as 8,000 or even less contacts blocked, it becomes apparent that limits are quite high. There is no official information provided by Apple regarding blocking limits, however.

Given how high the limits are, it is possible that people generally have not faced any problems regarding blocking numbers. Still, those who frequently block spam messages may experience problems.

The way out of the problem is to delete those contacts that have been previously blocked, and that can be achieved through Settings>Apps>Phone>Blocked Contacts. There is no way of unblocking multiple numbers at once, although the most convenient method is to use the left swipe action for each contact. Another solution would be to tap ‘Edit’ and then click on the red minus sign next to each contact and then unblock them.

The iOS 26 feature called ‘Ask Reason for Calling’ allows calls from unknown people to go straight into voicemail, making it much easier to deal with spam calls than blocking phone numbers one by one. Using the feature, a caller would provide a reason for making the call while the receiver of the call could decide whether to answer or not. Another solution to silencing such calls is the Silence feature.

Incoming calls and messages from unknown people can also be separated on another list called Unknown Calls. There is also an additional feature that some service providers provide to detect spam calls which would automatically be sent to the Spam list.

Apple has started the development process for the iOS 26.6 by releasing its first beta version to developers today. This software may possibly be released to the general public in the coming weeks, but at the moment, there are no other known features of iOS 26.6.
