Starting from Scratch: My Adventure in the World of Simracing

Assetto Corsa Competizione M2
Introduction
Hello! I am a complete novice in the world of simracing. I dove into this adventure practically alone, without friends already in the scene, armed with little more than internet searches and the infallible technique of “trial and error.”
This blog was born from the idea of sharing my journey as a beginner, with all the successes and (surely many) mistakes I encounter along the way. I want to talk about the little I’m learning in a relaxed and approachable manner, so that others in my situation can benefit from my experience or, at the very least, feel less alone in this exciting — but sometimes intimidating — world of simracing.
Purpose of the Blog
In this space, I want to share my experience in simracing from a completely novice point of view, without technical jargon or assuming you already know what it’s all about. The idea is to focus on those details that more experienced creators take for granted but that can feel like an invisible wall to beginners.
For example, when I was searching how to navigate a curve, almost everyone talked about the entry point, the apex, and the exit. But no one mentioned something as basic as gaze management, which I discovered on my own and is fundamental for properly handling turns and maintaining the racing line. And even more importantly: you can’t manage your gaze correctly if your FOV (field of view) is improperly configured! This is something I didn’t see in any tutorial and that can make your experience better or become frustrating without knowing why.
That’s why I want this blog to be a space to share my mistakes and learnings from the very basics, and to offer practical advice for others who are starting out. Here, there are no rushes or pressures to be perfect. It’s a place to learn, enjoy, and discover together how exciting this world can be, step by step.
My Perspective as a Novice
As a beginner in simracing, I’m seeing the scene from a completely different perspective than the experts. While they master advanced techniques and talk about complex setups, I’m dealing with much more basic things, like understanding which settings really matter when starting out or how to interpret certain concepts without feeling lost.
I believe there’s a gap between content for professionals or advanced enthusiasts and what we novices really need to take our first steps. I want to fill that void by sharing what I would have liked to know from the beginning. Here, you won’t find explanations on how to fine-tune your telemetry to the maximum, but practical and straightforward advice that often isn’t mentioned but makes a difference when starting out.
Join This Adventure!
If you’re taking your first steps in simracing, this blog is designed for you. I invite you to be part of this journey, whether by reading, learning from my mistakes, or sharing your own experiences.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve just discovered what a force feedback steering wheel is or if you’re still figuring out how to configure your FOV without going crazy — this space is made for us to learn together and enjoy the process without fear of making mistakes.
So, adjust your seat, start the engine, and join me on this adventure! Feel free to leave a comment with your questions, ideas, or experiences. Together, we’ll make this journey much more fun and enriching.
