The teenage boy singing on the bus in Mexico
The other day I was sitting on a bus on my way to my medical appointment. A Mexican boy who was about my son’s age (17) grabbed a microphone and started singing with all his heart and soul.

Have you ever had a time in your life where you wish you could just take someone under your wing and give them a big chance at something big?
Last week, I was on my way by bus to the hospital in the Lake Chapala, Mexico area. It is not uncommon to see street vendors, beggars and people singing for change here.
However, I have been involved in enough music and talent shows in my own life to recognize a star when I see one. In my opinion, this kid has everything it takes to become something special.
He was singing with all his heart and soul and was actually enjoying it. Many times these youth are forced to sing and beg because an adult has sent them to do it. I may be wrong, but it didn’t seem like he was performing out of obligation to anyone else.
I also know one thing: my teenage son wouldn’t be caught dead doing anything like this. As I contemplated the courage it took to go on a public bus and sing your heart out well, I caught his eye and I lifted my camera to capture that moment. He noticed and was delighted that I was enjoying his show. He then posed and smiled at me. It was a special moment. I hope someone finds him and gives him a chance to audition for one of those national talent shows in Mexico.
When I lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a now-famous actor named Facundo Araña was discovered while playing his saxophone in the subway. All I can say is that fate must have led him to be in the right place at the right time.
I do not know this young man. If I were Simon Cowell or Heidi Klum, I would snatch him up in a heartbeat. I hope that he gets a golden opportunity in life. He certainly deserves it.
