This journal will be released every three weeks (tri-weekly). The assessment and chronicle will be documented at the end of week three. Hence, we started the first entry after three weeks of moving to M-town. I moved here on the 7th of June, 2026 (07–06–26). So, it’s my third Sunday.
It’s been a mixed bag of loneliness, trying to adapt, no friends, house not yet set up, no light, and I have to buy food instead of preparing my meals (although not as expensive as Lagos, but come oo, I’ve not tried Chowdeck here, are they even in this axis?).
My top 3 relocation shocks
Number 3: The loneliness
I’m back to being a bachelor after 7 years of nuptial living, so sleeping alone after so many years is a shock, now this is not about sex oooo, though that one sef dey. But I’m actually the only one living in my single-room apartment. Yep, just me. Well, I have plenty of time to soliloquize in peace without being scolded that am i running mad (loco)? Since I moved, I’ve not really had time to explore and meet new people or make friends. And this is not from lack of trying. I have joined a local Redeem Church, and they have been very accommodating and welcoming. But it’s just the Sunday-Sunday service, I’m just getting to know the names of the pastors, workers, and ministers, and other parishioners, so I’m a newbie there. However, I wanna keep a low profile there, just join as a regular member, although I see a gap in the children and teens church (plus I have experience in that ministry). Let’s see how it goes, sha!
I also go to the co-workspace in the neighborhood, and I’ve met Pelumi and Amaka. They are cool, but abeg, that's just about it, make our relationship no pass acquaintances. Me and Woman Matter is on hiatus for now. But then again, they are single, I’m also single, should we mingle?? (chai..don’t leave meeeee)
Number 2: NO LIGHT
Omo! This one is the peak! Though it’s not number one, it is annoying. Apparently, the landlord is not buoyant enough to complete the connection of electricity in the compound, i.e., electricity from the NEPA (PHCN or IBEDC) poll outside into the flats in the house. He actually called to say that he is 150k short (how is that my problem?). I have my receipt for my rent payment, so the thing is that he wants to add 50k to everybody’s rent to complete the light connection. Imagine! Yet, we blame the government for everything. If I knew the light was not connected, obviously I wouldn’t have collected the house, plus I had been rejected by two previous landlord (one said she doesn’t want Yoruba tenant, the other said she doesn’t want a single guy as tenant, that she has female staff and a daughter, and she fears a single male tenant will toast and impregnate her daughter plus the female staff in her compound, just imagine) so maybe I was just desperate to secure a place. Hence, my power bank and the laptop are my source of charging. This will be sorted eventually; the house is not fully setup so for now I don’t even have electronics that need power. Then I’m also considering solar solution, let me be my own personal NEPA (power provider). The sun is free! But Ba bu Kudi, that takes us to number 1…
Number 1: I’m Broke AF!
Sapa just held me down in a chokehold, the same way John Cena's last WWE match ended, the only difference is that John tapped out, I have not! I’m still hanging in there. Thanks to some friends, I mean Angels in human form; family has also come through for me, and I’ve also liquidated some of my savings. I guess this was the rainy days they were talking about (funny enough, it’s raining as I type this).
The whole house has not been set up, and I don’t even have the funds to get what I need. I’m not in panic mode, but I really can use a financial breakthrough now. I finally got a job, yes oo, I’m going back to 9–5, the entrepreneurial adventure has been put on hold, because bills and cost of living are coming at me consistently, they are not waiting for the business to complete its gestation period. Hence, I had to look for a salary job so money could enter my account at the end of every month. Then, the whole divorce and settlement have left me drained (emotionally and financially), relocation and transporting myself interstate have also consumed lots of funds. Let’s not even talk about feeding. I don’t cook, so I buy everything I consume, and in this Tilumbu economy, your guess is as good as mine; it is not cheap!.
BUT, through it all, GOD HAS BEEN FAITHFUL! I won’t lie, sometimes I will have less than 100 Naira in all my accounts (and I have about 5), but just when all is so low, I just get provision (through those Angels in human form, shout out to Dammy, Victor, Lola, and Tomi) and replenish enough to sustain me again. The cycle of being in lack and getting just enough, rinse, repeat, and this rotation can be annoying and depressing sometimes, but I’ve learned to trust GOD. Thank GOD, I start work tomorrow. Now, since it's a few days to the end of the month, I don’t actually get paid this June; however, the days worked this June will be added to my July salary, so here we go again, the beginning of the cycle of lack, but hey, the provision will come again. Because, how will I survive July…. IT’S ON GOD!
