“The fear I have is natural. Many experience this. Perhaps they are younger, or slower, but it’s not as rare as you may think.”

“And when do you think you first felt this fear? Can you recall the moment?”

I knew the shrink thought I was crazy, as did my family, friends, and boss. But I wasn’t. I was just an innocent soul who got caught one day.

“You’ll laugh doc, but you shouldn’t. The pain I felt that day was scalp burning.” The shrink wrote something down. I stared at the dumb fish painting behind him. Why would you put a fish in a therapist’s office? What did that have to do with anything?

“This is a safe space Melanie, I am not here to judge you.”

“I was running late to see the gyno, okay? I had made a bad choice and slept with a bad person and it was an itchy after experience. Okay?”

“Go on…” I could feel the curiosity and scrutinizing build.

“The itch was unbearable and post hook-up messages were cringe. I didn’t want to talk to that buffoon, I just wanted some vag cream.” I took a deep inhale, knowing that I’d already dug myself this grave.

“So the building had a revolving door and I was running late and I was so damn uncomfortable and then I saw a real hottie on the inside and I pushed too hard and moved to slow and- well, my hairgotcaught.”

“Pardon?”

Ever got your hair caught in something? Doors are torture. So is gum. What a dumb story hahaha hope it makes you laugh!
