Do you remember the first time you heard about Ultimate Frisbee? For me, it was around 2008. Back then, most people looked at it like a random college-campus activity or something you played during gym class. Fast forward to today, and the sport has quietly built a real professional structure with loyal fan bases, growing attendance numbers, and franchises spread across North America.

The Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA), founded in 2012, has grown into the top professional ultimate league in the world. The league currently features 22 franchises across North America and is divided into four divisions: Central, South, East, and West. Teams stretch as far west as Seattle and as far north as Toronto and Montreal, showing just how wide the sport’s footprint has become over the last decade.

The UFA is pushing to grow the visibility of ultimate by leaning into what makes the sport unique — fast pace, athleticism, community, and affordable family entertainment. The league’s mission centers around showcasing the sport at the highest level while creating fun, fan-friendly environments that appeal to both longtime players and first-time spectators.

The 2026 UFA season officially opened during the final week of April and will run for 13 weeks, with the regular season concluding on July 19, 2026. One of the biggest selling points for the league is accessibility. The average ticket price for a UFA game sits around $25, making it one of the more affordable live sports experiences in North America.

The league also continues to show signs of steady growth at the gate. On May 2, 2026, the UFA set a new attendance record when 2,122 fans packed Sea Foam Stadium to watch the Minnesota Wind Chill take on the Chicago Union during Minnesota’s home opener. For a sport that many people still consider “underground,” moments like that show there is a real audience beginning to form around professional ultimate.

Heading into this season, the Boston Glory are chasing history. The defending champions are looking to become just the second franchise in UFA history to win back-to-back titles. Last season, Boston defeated the Minnesota Wind Chill in the championship game and now enter 2026 with a target on their backs as the rest of the league looks to knock them off the top.
